Thanks to someone out here I got the light to go out but the problem is still there, it hesitates real bad when you try to floor it like its starving for fuel. Also out here I found out how to check the code by watching the check engine light flash. Now maybe someone can tell me when the light will come back on so I can see what the code is or problem? Now it is only showing a 12 (battery was unhooked). (HELP)Its a 96 73k miles 5.2

Turn the ignition on-off-on-off-on After the third time, you should have a code flashed.

I know that much, I made the mistake of re-setting the check engine light before i had the trouble code. Now all it says is 12(battery was un-hooked) The truck hesitates real bad when you floor it.....I just want to get the check engine light to come back on so i will know what the heck is wrong....

If no key cycle codes are shown, you'll need the code reader (ala autozone) to extract any codes that don't show up on the MIL light. This assumes that the hesitation is caused by something that the computer will log in the first place.

When did the truck start doing this? Do any work to it just beforehand? Has engine been maintained properly?

Didnt do anything to it, was just driving home and the light came on. I should have left the light on to see the code but i screwed up and un-hooked the battery, now the code shows only 12. I was just wondering how long it would take before the check engine light would come back on so I can check what code it is. I have called Autozone here in calif and they told me they dont check codes anymore because of the mechanics union on there butts for taking all there gravy money away from them. I just did the on off thing to the ignition and watched the check engine light tell me the code...
