I have a 97 Dakota 4x4 with an odd cooling problem. The truck seems to heat up to around 195 in normal time, but there is no heat coming from the heater. The gage will then start to rise to just before the red mark as soon as the check gauges light comes on the temp gage drops and the heater works fine for a few minutes. Then it does it all over again. I have replaced the thermostat and am getting the same results. Also, as the truck heats up you can see and feel presure build up in the cooling system then you can hear the water start to flow and feel the hot water going through the top hase and heater hoses. I have heard somewhere about a pass through valve that allows a little water into the heater coil for early heating, any thoughts?

I feel kind of silly now. I actually checked the coolant level after making the original post and sure enough it was low. I just had the oil changed and injectors cleaned, so I assumed they topped off all the fluids, mistake. Every things ok now. Thanks.

BTW: Why is it the simple things that seem so complex.

I have a 95 dakota. After having the water
pump replaced It purges coolant after it is shut
off, but only when the air conditioner has been
used. The overflow reservoir is always low but
the radiator is always full at the cap. Truck
seems to run fine, but cooler than it used to. I
have had it checked three times only to be told
there is no problem. But there is!. Any ideas?
