Subject: Infamous problem with Dodge IP: Logged
Message: I took my 5.2 in this morning to get a new catalytic converter. It was poisioned and the honeycombs were clogging themselves. I think from bad gas. The truck started losing its power band, then most acceleration, then whistling, then rattaling (over the course of 800 miles on a road trip). Can affect idle too. This is apparently a major problem on all dodges and jeeps. The same guy who put my flowmaster on replaced the cat and said he's doing them all the time on dodges and jeeps. I think this might be the problem with a lot of trucks on the boards who have power loss problems.
He also said the other major problem w/dodge is the AC evaporater; mine was replaced under warranty.

Message: My '92 5.2 made it to 160K on the original converter. Misfiring spark plugs are as big a culprit as bad gas in ruining a cat/conv.

None of us here mod our engines do we? LOL.
BMW had a big problem with their cats rattling loose and clogging as well.
