Subject: HO Upgrade - 2003?
IP: Logged

Message:
I was going to buy the HO cams & intake manifold today but ran into a prob.

I was told that the intake manifold on the 2003 4.7 standard output and high output is exactly the same thing? They said it's the same part number - and it's been changed since last year.

Any of you guys see this? Would it be a benefit to install the HO cams? Is the 2003 standard output engine rated the same as last year?

I have heard rumor of that, but no one can conferm it. Call KRC or some of the net shops and ask them. I think KRC told someone that the '03 had the ho intake.

Or, be the first one and buy one, pull yours off and compare, then find out and let us know.

Unless DM changed to the HO intake on the 4.7 after the first couple months of the 03 model year, this is not true. I ordered my 03 QC 4.7 in late September 02, took delivery in Dec 02 - and the HO intake I installed with the cams was definitely different - more of a rounded barrel shape, set up for smoother flow, and it has the port for the IAT sensor in the intake (capped). Problem is, if they have done a part # merge or swap, then you're gonna have to see one of each to tell.

Got any pics of yours? Easy way to tell?

I talked to two different parts guys - was told this by both. I'm going to look on mine to see if I can see any part numbers.

i checked the part numbers today here at Huffines Dodge in PLano Texas for the HO intake and it is the same for the 03 4.7 Daks and the 03 Grand cherokee 4.7HO's. i think some of the early 03's have come off the lot with the regular 4.7 intake manifold. hope it helps.

Hmm what is the easiest way to identify, except from pulling the intake to see if it is?

I'm not sure. I just got got my 03 dakota and was talking to him about what I should do for performance. He said he can get me an aluminized 3 inch sinlge exit (ultraflow?) and cai for a good price. When I asked about the ho stuff, he said it wasn't worth it, it would make me lose low end, so the way he made it sound, I didn't have the ho set up?

The HO setup will give you gains at low end, which is why the majority of us do the swap in the first place. Dealers...sheesh. They know very little most times...

you need to distinguish between the ho cams and the ho intake...the cams give low end gains...the intake gives top end gains...or you can combine them and get a balance of both
