Subject: New Dak Owner... IP: Logged
Message: Hello, I'm Robert and I am a Dakaholic...
I purchased my third Dak yesterday - a 2003 QC 4wd 4.7 Manual 3.92, etc... My past ones were a 1987 and a 2000 CC 4.7 Auto.
As with most new cars, I'm preparing my list of plans... I'll be getting a sprayed in liner - don't want to cover the bed.
What are most of you doing to add some "umph" to this combo (not like it doesn't have enough!).
Mopar Cams, Intake? How about an air tube? I had a QuickD intake on my last Dak - didn't like it much as it was quite noisy (whined LOUD).
If I want to go w/ the Mopar Perf Cams & Intake - would a dealer install this for me & still cover it under warranty?
Any help is appreciated.

Message: Only thing that gave my 4.7 a liitle more seat HP was a changed exhaust from stock 2.5 to 3" with magnaflow muffler, that and homemade intake, If I had a brand new truck I would only do exhaust and intake and Tstat Leave the rest alone untill warranty expires.

Message: I got pretty much the same truck, 2003 4X4 QC 4.7 Auto (my woman said NO more stick shift!), but I got the standard 3.55 gears. Seems to be pretty good at getting into traffic. It kinda fights to do 80MPH+ on the biggest hills in the high altitude, but what doesn't.
So far all I have done to the 3 week old truck was install a Flowmaster on the stock pipe and drop in a K&N filter.
My question as well is what can I do which doesn't void my waranty? I'd like to at least keep up with the cheezy Ricers that try to cut me off!

Message: paysonbadboy, See the post above yours? Thats what you can do, Are people thick or what? Anything short of a Super charger wont do crap for your 4.7 as far as big HP gains. If you find a way my 235Hp dak manual can beat a 260 Hp ricer without an exspensive SC or turbo Let me know please.

Message: Well I wanted more than one guys opinion on the waranty issue knowing that 50% of the people here are full of B.S 50% of the time.
I added the Flowmaster because I like the sound, not that I expected any power out of it. The K&N filter has added some to a few vehicles of mine, but nothing noticable on the last car I had or my truck. But I had credit coming to me from the performance shop (Lopers) when I returned my new and un used cam, lifters, timing chain, etc from the old Chevy (350) I just sold. SO those things were the only things in the shop I could use for my new truck. Too bad these things aren't easy to get power out of like the old school small blocks. It's harder to get any noticable gains besides some boost and the Engineers of these new engines have already exploited most of the power as is. Doing the work my self, I can put about $1000 into a small block in an old car and spank our trucks like we were sitting still.
By the way, I am very pleased with the exhaust tone from my 4.7 liter. It sounds similar to that of a 4.6 Mustang and better than what I usually hear from a Chevy Silverado, etc.
Tonight I just ran my new Dakota against my Chrysler Cirrus (same drive train as a Sebring) and they were dead even both from a stop and from hitting it at a standing 50MPH. Bummer. My Cirrus is stock too, but not for long. It will get a S/C before my Dak does!
