Subject: Fuel Injector Cleaning?
IP: Logged

Message:
The guys that change my oil at the local Mobil Quick Lube said I should have my fuel injectors cleaned every 18,000 miles? Is this true? It sounds like a quick way for them to make a buck or two. They also told me a K&N filter would void my warranty which I know is pure BS so thier creditiblity is out the window already.

Any advice on the fuel injectors? I can see doing at maybe like 50,000 miles, but every 18K?

JMII, I've used to be a manager at a lube shop, and I will tell you that almost every recommendation that those guys tell you is nothing but BS. I still bring my truck to the shop I used to work at, because I know the manager there, and most everyone else. If I didn't know them, I would probably do it myself. They tell you anything it takes to get you to buy they're stuff. I wouldn't put too much confidence into anything they tell you. There are some shops that have some honest recommendations, but there are very hard to come by. I would say your pretty close on your estimate of about 50,000 for a fuel injection cleaner. But, you can probably go to your local autoparts and get something equivelant to what they use. All they do is pull a vacuum hose, and use the vacuum to suck some cleaner through your system. They have a handy little valve to control the flow that goes on the top of the bottle, and they charge you 39.99 or something outrageous. Let me know if you have any other questions about a lube shop. BTW, I like your setup for your system, nice work.

02CC4.7 - thanks for both the compliment on the stereo and the advice. I knew they were full of it. Oddly they told me to change the tranny & diff fluids at 18K too even though the manual (and dealer) says 12K. I told them I do alot of towing and they still said the dealer was ripping me off from changing it "early". Clearly these guys are in the group that have no idea what they are talking about. Thanks again.
