Subject: exhaust, 2.5"or 3.0" IP: Logged
Message: I just got a new 2003 4.7, and from what i've read hear the way to go is to keep it one pipe and stay away from dual exhaust.(lose low end torque, and no gain in HP). I want to swap out mufflers(flowmaster delta flow 40 series) but i was wondering if i should keep the stock size 2.5" or bump it up to 3.0"out. Any input or comments will help thanx.

Message: unless you get bandrel bent tubes.. go with 3".. when they bend it, that 2.5 gets tiny.

Message: You should not go to the 3" exhaust...stick w/
the 2.5 Just as with putting a dual exhaust on
your Dak, putting 3" pipes on it will cause for a
loss in backpressure and therefor a loss in
torque. There might be a tiny-tiny Hp gain, but
you will lose torque. And in my opinion, the
torque is the funnest part of the V8.
Hope this helps...BA.

Message: I have a 2001 4.7 and all I did was change the muffler.....used a dynomax ultra-flo p/n 17289. Boy does it sound great. It isn't to loud at idle but when you open it up it sounds like a race car.....cool.
It is a 2.5 inlet and outlet and the muffler is slightly shorter....about 2 inches. As for the mandrel bent pipes...well if you look at the pipe ahead of the muffler is mandrel bent. It is the tailpipe that isn't.
I doubt that changing the tailpipe to a mandrel bent one is going to do anything but lighten your wallet. Also 2.5 vs 3.....again using a 3" pipe I think you would be hard pressed to see any gain at all. If you had a full race truck perhaps some benefit, but on a stock or slightly modified engine I believe you are wasting your money.
Hope this helps.

Message: I have a 2002 4.7 with a home made intake and a Magna Flow single 3" cat back. I tow a 2000lb trailer 80% of the time and noticed a 3-4 mpg gain with the two mods. It also seems to accelerate quicker and definately sounds better. I went with Magna Flow insted of Flowmaster because it was cheaper and had a lifetime warranty versus 1 year. Hope that helps.
