Subject: Intake manifold bolt/ oil consumption? IP: Logged
Message: 1. I took my 99 RT/CC in for some service/inspection (reputable garage not a dealer)last week because I am consuming a quart of oil (Mobil 1) every 8 weeks. It's my daily driver about 70 miles a day during the week. The #8 plug was little damp he said but there were no signs of excessive carbon build-up on any of the plugs. They pressure checked each cylinder and they were fine. There is no visible smoke at anytime and no apparent leaks. Could it be slipping past the valve seals or could there be an oil ring on it's way out?
2. The mechanic noticed, the rear bolt on the intake manifold (stock, no work done to it) on the passengers side, has its head worn/broken off. The main part of the thread is still in place and it was checked for leaks. He told me to keep an eye on it. Anyone have a bolt like wear off like this? Thanks, Brad

Message: I'm not sure if your problem could be the same as I had with my 97 CC Sport 4x4 318 but It sure sounds like it. The gasket on the belly pan or plenum of the intake was blown and sucking a quart of Mobil 1 every 4-500 miles. Take a flashlite and look down your TB if it is wet most likely that is your problem. Hope This helps

Message: Not sure how the head of the bolt coudl be missing. Nothing there to wear it away, and with the manifold bolts only being torqued to 12ft/lbs, not enough pressure to break it. Get a 2bbl M1 and forget about the oil loss(probably coming from blown plenum gasket on beer barrel manifold). Also makes changing the cap and rotor a breeze.

Message: The first thing someone recommended was to look down through the TB to see if there was any oily buil-up. There was nothing. I run 93 octane so maybe it's being burned up? The idea of getting a M1 has crossed my mind. I'd hate to pull the intake for nothing. Thanks for your replies.

Message: The octane rating of the fuel you use HAS ABSOLUTLY NOTHING TO DO WITH OIL IN YOUR INTAKE OR NOT !

Message: Putting the 2bbl M1 on woudl not be pulling the intake manifold for nothing. It shows nice gains in performance. And I woudl also recomend you stepo down to 89 octane gas unless you have detonation issues. I run 89 in my R/T with the Mopar PCM, 2.20 R/T heads, custom cam, Mopar headers, and 2bbl M1. My truck actually likes the 89 better than 91. Gets better gas mileage and run stronger. I check spark plugs frequently and they always look good, if not a little on the rich side.
