Subject: 4.7 QC Manual Mileage? IP: Logged
Message: I'm looking to get the above-mentioned truck here in a few days... Anyway, what type of mileage are you guys seeing from this combo?
I can get this w/ either the 3.55 or the 3.92 gears. Could you guys let me know which you have, your mileage, and what you would get if you had it to do over again.
I really appreciate it. I had a 2000 CC Dak w/ the 4.7/auto - loved it! I don't remember this though.

Message: Depending on how heavy my foot gets I range between 16.5 and 17.5 MPG with my truck. This consists of a 75/25% freeway/city driving mix. The freeway driving is normally between 75 and 80 MPH.
Before I put my flush mounted hard tonneau cover on I ran one MPG less.
If you don't plan on doing any meaningful towing you might consider going with the 3.55 rear-end. You'll get a little increase in the MPG.
I have the 16" wheel package and the 3.92 LSD rear-end. Would I buy a different combo on another Dakota? Not a chance.

Message: I've had mine for about a year now. On long hauls I play around with different speeds to see which is best. At a constant gallop around 65 I can do better than 20. (20.4, 20.5) Really have to work at it. Normal highway speed (70) plan on 17 or a little more. Around town I play too much so it's more like 14. Hey it's a truck. Want great mileage....... Geo. hahahhahaha

Message: JC - what tranny do you have? Gear ratio?
I'm not really concerned about mileage, just wondering what I'm looking at.
Modain - how are your rpms @ 75 or so? Are they high? (do they feel high)

Message: I've got a Dakota with your powertrain on order, in a Club Cab SLT+. I drove that truck with the 4.7L 5spd Manual with the 3.55's and the big tires; needless to say, I ordered the 3.92.
With the 3.55, it ran 55mph in 2nd at about 5300 rpm; and at 90mph, it was at 2300rpm. That was a little too much top end of a gear for me. This motor likes to crank too, so the 3.92 is a Natural fit. I'll take the better acceleration over the little extra mileage any day.

Message: Rob: I've got a regular cab, but can relate a few things. With 4.7 5-spd. 3:92, on 255/65/16, my rpms run 2500 at 75 mph, 2400 at 70. Not bad at all, engine runs comfortably all day. With a K&N drop-in and custom air intake, and Flowmaster 70 2 1/2" duals, and a Snugtop shell, 19.5city/20.5hwy. Regular cabs are about 300 pounds lighter than club cabs; don't know the quads weight diff.

Message: 75 in 5th runs at 2500 RPM. It's nice, with a gentle squeeze on the throttle I can easily gain speed to pass, etc.
