Subject: Misfiring- Cause by Fuel Injector Clnr??
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey all,

Just wondering... I have a 97, 5.2 Liter, Quad Cab Sport.... I have higher milage engine and thought it would be a good idea to run some fuel injector cleaner through it. It was suggested to me to use Lucas injector cleaner... I poured the stuff into the gas tank and filled her up... My truck is now running very ruff and is misfiring or backfireing... The check engine light came on and I had the codes read. It was saying that all cylinders were misfiring... Could this be caused by the cleaner and will it go away after I get through this tank and run regular gas through it or should I replace my plugs/wires/cap and rotor? Which I plan to do anyways.

Let me know what ya think!

Thanks in advance,

Geoffrey

NO fuel injector cleaner should cause those symptons. When you do run it through let us know so nobody uses that kind. Also, if you get fresh gas in it and it fixes the problem I would take it up with the manufacturer. They will probably blame it on bad gas, but you gotta gripe at someone if that shnit caused it.

Well to tell you the truth I really think it was cause by the fuel injector cleaner... I will find out who the MFG is again.. I can't remember off the top of my head. I was told that it's running richer and it might cause it to run rich... I'll let you know what happens... If anyone else out there has experienced this let me know.

Thanks,

G.

W.T.F.!!!!!!!

I just got done changing the Distributor and the Rotor... Thought that might be the problem... Well... It's still backfiring.... So what else could it be... I don't know if it's from me degreasing the engine or adding that fuel injector cleaner... Should I change the wires and plugs now??? Could this be because I took our my catalytic converter??? Hell I don't know! Someone help!!!!!

It backfires only when I step on it but it's running ruff too.... It was not doing this for a whole week... So it's got to be either from cleaning the engine or the Fuel Injector Cleaner.....

AAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick the F!@#!@#$ Football!!!!

Geoffrey, that misfire is definately not caused by removing your cat. Did you clean the engine before or after you ran the fuel injector cleaner? You may want to replace the plugs and wires anyway. When you replace your wires, do them one at a time, and make sure that they're in the right firing order.

I added fuel injector cleaner and five minutes later 4 out of the
five cylinders were showing mis-fire. I had already done a tune
up with new spark plugs, ignition coils, air filter, new MAF, new
valve cover cause my 2006 Jetta has a valve or something in
the valve cover. This is why I had to replace that cause that's
what it was indicating as a problem. But now after the fuel
injector cleaner it messes up my car!
