Subject: Error code P 0442 IP: Logged
Message: OK, my engine light went on this morning and the code I was able to extract was P0442. Does anyone know what this code means? I didn't have a chance to call the dealer and b/c of the holiday weekend most are closed around here. Also, depending on what it is, do you have any possible suggestions to correct it.

Message: Most likely the gas cap was not installed correctly or is loose. Did you get gas just prior to the light coming on?

Message: Mine light randomly comes on with that code sometimes. I've checked all the EVAP lines and everything is fine. Gas cap seems tight everytime it comes on. I reset the PCM and it goes away for a while. It hasnt been on in about a month now. Havent got a clue whats up.

Message: I checked the gas cap and it was on correctly. The truck seems to be running fine, with no response problems. How do you reset the PCM? Will the idiot light go out automatically upon correction of the problem? Or do I have to rest the PCM to do that? Thanks for the help guys, now I hope I can find the problem, that light is annoying to look at!

Message: I had the same code on my '00 QC. Couldn't get in the shop for several weeks so I reset the PCM to clear the MIL. I actually had to do this twice before I could get to the shop. By the time I got it in the shop the code had change to P0455 - Large leak Detected. They did a smoke test and found that evaportor pump was leaking. It was changed out free of charge.
As for resetting your PCM, I did mine by d/c the negative battery cable then turned the ignition key to the start position for 10 seconds. Try a search for more info.
