Okay...I'm gonna swap the muffler and keep the stock pipe, my only other mod is the h.o. cams...I had the fastman tb but the pedal vibration was horrendous...anyways I miss the performance and want to do something more...with my only mod being the h.o. cams would a 3 inch be overkiil or just right?

keep the stock pipe. 2.5" stainless flows
great and wont rust...if you switch out to 3"
aluminized you'll probably lose a little low end
torque, but not much and you'll see rust
eventually. after your truck has been force fed
some air switch to 3" exhaust.

I had 3" catback dumped on my 4.7 and I lost
a little low end. I did it for the sound more
than the power. changing exhaust on the 4.7
isnt going to give you much, if any HP gains.

I just did a muffler swap and kept the stock pipes. Put in a polished stainless steel Magnaflow (2.5" in/out). Sounds great and no perceived loss in torque. If anything, feels like I gained a tiny bit.

I had my stock 2.5 changed to 3" and gained a little bit, I did not lose any low end, If you think about it I have the 01 dak 4.7 with 3 cats and I have 2.5 from ypipe untill last cat so even if i went 4" there is still the restriction of 2.5 through half the exhaust.

Franlofter-yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking, I'm figuring the stock muffler is already fairly free flowing and to get any gain at all I would need to upgrade to a 3inch muffler. After installing the cams the low end is pretty stout, and even the high end as well, it's just the middle rpms that seem as if they are a little choked up, I gonna make the swap and hopefully I'll get some performance gain and not pay all that money just for more sound

I've got a '01RC 4.7 5-spd 3:92. I put on a Flowmaster 70 single in/dual 2 1/2" out. Noticed very little performance change, but nice sound. Recently, I made my own 3" aluminum cool air intake with a K&N drop-in, and now she flies! I've had 8 Mopars over the years, and they all have one thing in common: good air in + good air out= increased performance.

For two years I tried a simple muffler swap, with stock pipes., You need more!
