Has anyone tried to enclose the 90 degree tube that sticks out of the front of the stock air box with the opening in the fender??? I was thinking of giving it a shot to try and cram some more air into the air box. Any comments????

I don't think you would gain much off of it...Plus you would get a bunch of water and mud and other stuff up into your airbox from the road...

03 didn't say which engine, but on a 4.7, the "snorkel" draws mostly air from the fender, some from the engine bay. One homebrew trick is to remove the plastic flap between the radiator anf headlight, and remove the snorkel. Leave the snorkel off or install a Fernco or similar plumbing inlet to collect cool air. I have this mod, have driven in hard rain with no ill effects. Gravity takes care of the water.

Sorry, it is the 4.7. Thanks for the input guys. 01, did you notice any performance gains with your mods??? I was considering this because I'm leaning towards just a drop in K&N filter. I'm still up in the air about the whole 26 horsepower gain by installing the FIPK kit. I can believe maybe 10, but do I really want to drop $280 to find out. I wish there was a site that showed actual gains by just doing a replacement filter as well as the whole kit.

For $300 you can install some nice cat-back duals and a sweet home brew intake. I couldn't be happier with my setup. My air intake consists of Vibrant 3" aluminum 90 degree and straight tubes from a tuner shop, Spectre boots, K&N drop-in, 2 Fernco 4"/4" from Home Depot, and the "rubber flap" removed. Intake cost was $120+40 for K&N filter.

If you want to know how much potential power you can gain from an intake, just remove the filter and drive around the block. That will give you a good idea. No filter is less restrictive than nothing. (obviously put a filter of some kind back on).
