Subject: Fuel pump purring IP: Logged
Message: I recently started hearing this purring noise coming from under my truck below the fuel door when it is running. I assume its the electric fuel pump but I have never heard this before. Anyone else have this noise on thier Dak? Mine is a 99 5.2 5 speed

Message: 98Durango360,
You need to feed that pump, then pet it like it was a nice kitty!
BUT if your pump is getting loud it is usually not a good sign. The early gen III's have a tendency for the pump to die, often...

Message: I just changed mine with a brand new NAPA one for around $165. It is the whole sending unit with the pump and all. It's one piece. Not to hard to change. I was told to take a rubber mallet and wallop the bottom center of the nylon tank to free up whatever is stuck in the pump or in the filter which is on the bottom of the tank. Don't be affraid to hit it a couple of times really good. Then see if she stops purring.......... In any case I changed the tank sending unit assembly myself in about 1 1/2 hours. Run it out of gas first before you waste the entire day syphoning out of the smaller filler tube. Good luck.
