Subject: 4.7 - Y Pipe IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 sport with a 4.7 in it.
It has 2 catalytic converters in the Y pipe,
one on each side. The one on the passenger side
makes a noise when I down shift and let off of the gas. I was told the converter is coming
apart inside. One person told me to take off the
Y pipe and knock the guts out of both converters,
and put them back on. They said this would be ok
because I still have a third converter down stream.
I talked to a second person that said If I did this that my (check engine) light would come on
because there are two O2 sensers in the Y pipe on both sides of the converters that will detect this.
If this is true is there a way I can reset the computer so the engine light will not come back on. If there is no way to do this, is there someone that can recommend a good after-market
Y pipe with cats.? Maybe High performance,if there
is such a thing. I am open to any suggestions.
PS. I now have a Flowmaster cat back system.

Message: Basically covers pollution control stuff from the cats on upstream, but not wear items like sparkplugs. If its breaking down its not working effectively, so it should be covered. Just let the dealer know you think it should be covered ( U.S. anyways, don't know if Canada has anything similar ) They'll probably agree.

Message: Smog related equipment has a 50 000 ( average ) warrnaty. Depending on the manufacturer some offer a longer one but I know they all have to have 50 000 by federal law.
I would take it in and have them fix the cats. if they dont want to then all you need to do is call the Smog licensing air pollution office in your state. if youre in California all you need to do is call C A R B and they will call the delaer and magically your cats will be fixed.

Message: I could of sworn i read it in one of my owners manuals that smog related equipment had a 50 000 mile warranty. I called and dodge has a 80 000 I thought it was 50 000. Now does that mean its all smog related equipment or jsut cats.

Message: Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let everyone know, I went to
a Dodge dealer in Maryland and they are going to
cover everything. They are putting on both pre-cats and the Y pipe at no cost to me, under the
EPA warranty. They told me It is 8yrs or 80,000mi.
I would still like to know where I can get a set
of cat boxes. Does anyone know of a good brand
out there and where can I find them?
Thanks for all the help!!!
