Message: Its alright, things happen. I would have to say that your best bet would probably be flowmaster. I'm not that well educated with the best kind of exhaust for the 3.9, but i would say flowmaster.

Message: I have a '97 5.2 with a 50 series Flowmaster, single inlet/outlet, and it has worked well. It has a nice, deep sound, and it helps the mid-range giddyup.
I would like to move to a dual outlet, but there isn't a complete system listed for the Dakota on Flowmaster's website. I may end up having to get the Flowmaster muffler and custom pipes for a dual outlet. Eh.

Message: my words of advice ditch the flowmaster, i just had mine taken off and it was only 2 yrs old. it sounded like an etch-a-scetch when we shook it, i replaced it with a magnaflow single 2 1/2in. inlet to 2 1/2in. outlets,it is true straight thru, i must say the sound loudness decreased way down at half to little acceleration but when you step down on it it actually sounds way better than the flows. i had my truck dynoed with the flow on abuot a month ago and put down 215hp, 345ftlb and rising at the freakin stupid speed limiter, then i did the magnaflow, 227hp, 365ftlb, to the wheels at speed limiter. i am VERY satisfiedwith it
It's Gumbo night every night with all the rice i cook!

Message: I put Gibson Headers and Gibson Catback on my 4.7 5 Speed. Very nice sound and increased performance. Also took off all the stock air intake duct work and replaced with and K&N big mouth. Sounds like a vaccume cleaner on Steroids.

Message: Gibson seems to be the best bang for the buck. The lower end power and torque is what makes gibson the best bet for the higher rev 4.7L.

Message: I have 99 Dakota RC 3.9 V-6 - had muffler shop install 2 1/2" Magnaflow with dual 2 1/2" pipes into 3" SS tips exiting at the rear corners. I am very pleased with the sound, the performance and mileage increase. The sound is great, I didn't want something to catch every cop's attention while driving and this is mellow unless you really get on it, then she sounds really nice. I would highly recommend Magnaflow. I went into the shop asking for Flowmaster and even though they sold anything I wanted, including alot of Flowmaster, they recommended I go with Magnaflow as better sound and performance.

Message: I just had a catback system installed, $140 for a 3" single with a Flo-Pro muffler. It sounds throaty and not too loud, no snap snap!
It was just a local place so here are a couple others sounds.

Message: OK. no one mentioned glass packs. i have a 91 5.2 with single outlet and it flows better than the flow-pro i had. It sounds nice and deep too. only when you bust them do they sound like crap. mine is heavy duty built, hard to bust, bend, rust, ect. Pretty sure it is stainless. It cost me $40 installed, and $10 to remove cat. I also put the pipe straight out the rear.(adding duals later). After about a month they sound deep, yet powerful, like a big block. any comments?
