Subject: internal or external balance??? IP: Logged
Message: Friend of mine who's not on-line wanted me to find out if anybody out there knows whether an '88 Dakota 3.9 L is internally or externally balanced... Motor's shot and he's got a '76 360 he'd like to replace it with. Can anybody help? Thanx!!

Message: 3.9 and 5.2 are internally balanced. The 5.9 is externally balanced.

Message: Okay, great -- are all years of 3.9 the same??; can they use the same tranny and torque converter? (then again, I have no clue if it's automatic or standard... I'm a Bow Tie person, myself...)But, seriously, will the tranny bolt ok too?

Message: all 3.9s are internal bal,360s external bal,
you can bolt the trans to a 360 with a flex plate from B&M about $80 or a bal kit from mopar performance for the torque converter for about $40
