Message:
Just read where the new 5.7L V-8 will produce 345 HP and 365 ft-lb of torque when it debuts in the full-size Rams in 2003. Hopefully it will make it to the Dakotas without much change.

hey you think if they put that in a dak their gonna call it the Dakota SRT-8 like they did with the Ram SRT-10, Neon SRT-4 and of course the Viper SRT-10?

either way I doubt anyone will be complaining about how slow RTs are anymore when these come out

With that said... Where is my hemi that dodge keeps saying there going to re-release in dodge vehicles. If gas prices is what your going to say please hold your breath. If any of you have any other excuses please enlighten me. To be honest i think it should be up to the consumer. If the demand is high who cares how much gas it eats?

The new 5.7 is the Hemi you must have heard about. It is a true, opposed valve, hemi. It even gets dual sparkplugs the old one only got from aftermarket suppliers. It also get better gas mileage then the current 360 but I don't think its any better then a 4.7. Luckily Chrysler is treated to the feul standards as a whole company. Since the PT cruiser got classified by CAFE as a truck its huge sales and feul efficient 4 clyinder are doing wonders for the Dodge truck average. I'm not sure but the minivans may be classified as a truck and they also have incredible sales, and the worst ones still get over 20 MPG on the highway. These CAFE figures are really not fair to a lower production speciality vechile. If Hummer wasn't owned by GM they could never get away with making their trucks. They'd have to come up with some tin can POS 4clyinder, and hope it sold just to offset their real truck. Tghe standards really favor the companies like Honda and Toyota who make the little toy cars and trucks. The biggest way manufactures can increase fuel efficiency is to reduce the weight, and it's been estimated that if they did lower the average to achive the new standards the Democrats like Gore push, then thousands more people would be killed in traffic accidents every year. The terrorists kill a few thousand americians and we go to war, the Democrats are trying to kill even more then september 11th and nobody notices. It's my choice to pick the product I want, and the manufactures to build the product in demand. There is plenty of oil out there to get and if prices go up the market will deceide if people will still pay for the increased costs with having a large powerful vechile. What if I only drive 2 miles to work, I can get 10 miles to the gallon and still I'm not using as much natural reasources as somebody in a Toyota Privius that get 50 miles to the gallon but lives 11 miles from work. The Government can only screw this up more then already is.

LI Blackdak, way to cave to into the hype. I don't know about were you live but the air is noticably cleaner here now then it was 15 years ago, and it wasn't that bad then. Global warming is not even close to be proven, and I guess it's OK to drill oil in the middle wast but no in the US. Somehow I guess drilling it over there effects the earth's enviroment less then if we did it here? And finally my previous argument about me only driving 2 miles compared to 11 miles in a Toyota Priviuos still holds Ture, even if the Dakota puts 10 times more (power as well as emissions) I'm still not puting out as much emissions as the Toyota driver. Our enviroment is so much cleaner here compared to 100 years ago when nobody was driving cars, and so much cleaner then any other country. To think humans have the power to destroy the earth's enviroment is pretty arrogant, it's survived much worse in the past then even a nuclear war, let alone a pickup that gets 13 MPG.

The main reason that we do less oil drilling here, is because the government wants us to keep it as a reserve...think, once the middle east and Russia run out of oil, we will still have our oils supply reserves. Why use our own oil, when we can buy oil from other at the same price, and secure our future...

Hey intensedak39, you said you saw a show saying that the climate on earth is getting colder. You know that is one of the effects of Global Warming right? The lack of an efficient atmosphere ozone layer will make the winters colder and summers hotter. That cause heat will not be retained easily in the winter and heat will not be effectively screened during the summer. The term global warming is a misconception and really no expert calls it global warming anymore

What about DuPont, and lobbying to get rid of the freon in cars? Know how many Tillions they've made off of the B.S. that the freon in cars hurts the ozone? I'm all for the environment, the outdoors type, but not just so somebody cashes in on the hype, with no benefit to the ecosystem.

Trucks and cars are not even half the problem. I saw a show that said a regular push lawnmore will put out more polution in 2 hours then a civic will put out in one year. So i bet a lawnmore working for 6 hours is about what V8s get today.

Then you have the few that took of emitions stuff and are way worse. But the problem is the industries.

You want to pick on the cars and trucks drinking gas well at least they serve a purpose. Look at that huge cruise ship. In one run it uses more gas then probably all of us combined will ever use in our daks. (That may not be accurate but i hope you see my point.)

The way things are going right now manufactors are makeing bigger engines with more power with less emmitions.

As for globel warming. Thats a bunch of BS. I saw a show that said that Globel Warming was the result of a bad computer model. Earth has its cycles and its just following it.

Just think about it if you try to save the enviroment by biking to work one day all you have to do is run your lawnmore for 1min and the damage is done.

Finally the way I see it. Let them build there big engines v10s monster v8s who cares. If a 5.7 LS1 in a camaro can get the same milage as most v6s then really theres not much diffrence.

I thought Carriers use Nuclear Reactors?

Maybe very late 2002 if your lucky (Ram) Not Dak
Maybe 2003 For the Ram
Good Chance for late 2003 (Ram) maybe Dak
For sure in 2004 if they use that engine.

They do use nuclear reactors and are actually very efficient because of that. Cars and trucks aren't even the main polluters. It's mainly industry and big diesel trucks. But cars and trucks are the main consumers of gasoline. I don't think to much about global warming but it would be nice to think that some day my kids won't have to wear respirators just because they live in a city.

We need to have more concern for the environment rather than anticipating that next hot engine that detroits gonna introduce. We shouldnt rationalize that because industry, diesel trucks and aircraft produce so much pollution that it means we should continue to indulge our obsessive hunger for power and performance.Americans have this attitude more than any other culture,no wonder environmentally-friendly cars have to be practically given away in this country.
