Subject: Stalling at idle IP: Logged
Message: I have a '94 5.2 Dakota, no eng. mods, auto. tranny, w/A/C that stalls when I lift off throttle at low speeds after engine is warmed up. At highway speeds I have noticed RPM drops to almost 0 and then recovers to about 500-600RPM idle when I lift off the throttle completely. I have changed cap, plugs, IAC and some vacuum device at the right rear corner of engine(can't remember the name, been to long, sorry). NO HELP! About a year ago I dropped the gas tank and changed the whole pump/filter unit(damaged sending unit in wrestling match while removing, so changed whole unit). Problem went away, but started to notice a FOUL odor from exhaust system after extended idling. Problem has now started intermittantly showing back up. My question is, is cat causing this new problem, or is my fuel filter clogging back up, or is it a combo of both. The FOUL odor has disappeared about the same time my stalling showed back up. I have been running mid-grade gas since about '99 when truck first started having this problem. A little long, but needed to put all pertinent info in, any suggestions would be helpfull. Do not want to drop the fuel tank again if I don't have to.

Message: There is about a $30 part called a "Hall Effect Pickup Unit". It is a little elecronic connector that plugs iinto your distributor.
D/C sells alot of computers for $$$ when. in my 2 cents, is to replace this inexpensive part. My 3.9 was actually stopping on the highway - and always restart - until I replaced it - Auto Zone.

Message: I had almost the same problem.
A new PCM fixed it for me, the computer on a '93 just got too old.
