Subject: Super Comp, Gibson, Doug Thorley Heads?
IP: Logged

Ok, I thought about swapping my 1993 318 for a 360 but decided not. I have been looking a headers and have narrowed it donw to thesew 3 choices: (in no particular order)
1. Super Comps
2. Gibson
3. Doug Thorley Headers

So which is the best. I like JBA, but they are out of my $$$ range. Anyway, if anyone has these headers could you tell me how good they are and if they are worth the money?? How much HP could I gain if I put them on??? Also, should I change my 3.55 gears to 4.10 gears??? I have been told that I should. Any info??
Thanks for any help and God Bless!!

Never heard of Super Comp. I've had Gibson and Thorley. Both are good, Thorley's are better.

Hooker Super Comp are the only true racing header
of the ones you listed. the number I believe
is 5803 and be prepared for a rigorous install-
ation. I can give you the gory details if you email me. You have to be a die hard to do this!
They breath very well and fully compliment an M1
taller gears,RRs,MP conmputer etc.

I'm considering doing either headers, pcm or gears next on my 95 dak, 318.

I'm porting out an intake right now. The TB is ported and polished, I have a freeflowing cat and muffler. along with electric fans, msd ignition and wires, 21 lb/hr injectors. krc 206 cam, 1.6 rr's. 3.55:1 one wheel wonder. What do you think I should do next. My truck has some awesome top end, but the bottom is lacking

I had headers on my six and they made quite a difference, but I"m wondering which brand has the most benefits for the 318. Thorley, JBA, and PPH all seem to be up there. Are they all emissions legal? I need to use my EGR system for emissions.

Are there any performance differences between the three? If I do headers I'll need a Y-Pipe also because mine leaks a bit.

Thanks, Geoff

hey man,

I just bought mopar headers and they are made by Thorly, it even came in a thorly box.

They are pretty thick and look like they have very good craftsmanship. They come with a new y-pipe as well. I'm impressed so far

The only thing is that they require the tranny dipstick to be replaced with a unit from a 94 dakota(mine is a 93). Apparently they are the best you can get for Dakotas

Being a college student I really can't afford the ceramic coating. Is there anything I can have done myself that will help protect them? How would engine enamel, ceramic header paint (that checker sells) or powder coating hold up?

What Can you feel the difference with the headers or just hear it?

thanks geoff

If you can't afford the ceramic coating, save the money and wait to install them until you can. I won't install another set of headers that aren't coated.

I used Thorley on my Dak. I had used them before on a jeep and dyno'd the jeep after I installed them and saw 13hp and 36ftlbs of torque. I will post the results once I get my flatbed working. Go with Thorley because they make POWER and are 50 state CARB legal. Comps aren't!

I have a 93 318 at some point I would like to put the R/T cylinder heads on it that have the 2.02 intake and 1.65 exhaust valves with a 260/264 duration and .458/467 lift cam, shortie headers, and a singli plane manifold. what kind of power could I see from that combination.
