Subject: Slack Dodge Balancing Tolerances!! IP: Logged
Message: Ok,
I'm sure some of you ol' 9 sec. Camaro buffs have heard something or actually done this, but I'm new to the sport. How can you turn a crankshaft. I seem to notice a little harmonic vibration in the 4.7's crankshaft, or I guess it could be in the 15 gram tolerance they balance these motors to.....
I just don't know much about balancing/rotating an engine for dependable HI-RPM (8500+) use. I mean dependable as in only like spinning it that fast at the track. I don't race many folks so I don't put a lot of wear on my motor over time. But I would like to find out how to make it better at spinning hi-rpms.
How much money can this cost?
Can you actually shave material from a certain spot on your pistons and rods to bring them within one gram of one another?
It seems that this would GREATLY increase the life of the engine.
I have an older BMW (90' 535i) and that motor winds as tight as a Honda 4 banger up to 7000 and these motors are notorious for running 400,000 miles dependably.
Are our American manufacturers cutting corners?
