 Subject: 4.7 v8 hard starting

2001 starts fine when it is cold or just after you shut it off. let it sit for a half hour or more and it will have to spin for about 10 seca before it will start. also get a strong odor of raw gas at this time. anybody got any ideas? all the dealers ive been to have never heard of this problem

My old one had the same thing and it would come and go.... Never not started so that is all I really worried about.. although come to think of it it almost went away when i did the HO cams...

One of your fuel injectors is hanging open and bleeding all of the fuel out of the fuel system into a single cylinder. In order to start it you have to both wait for the fuel pump to refill the fuel rail and pressurize the system but also cycle thru and burn all of the raw fuel out of that cylinder that got it all.

hook a fuel pressure guage to it,turn the key on so the pump comes on, then shut the key off and see how fast the pressure falls. if it drops below 40 psi in 2 minutes or less, your gonna need a fuel pump if all else is well with your fuel system. have to do this many times a week at my dearler. hope this helps.
