Message: I just want something from the CAT back on my '03 quad cab. I've heard of Flowmaster & Gibson. Is there a preference? Single or dual? I plan to install a K&N drop in filter with no other changes to the engine (for now).

Message: Personally, I love the sound and look of my Gibson dual rear split. I'm sure you will hear good and bad for both brands.

Message: I have had very good success with the changes I made. I recommend you look very carefully at your set up. The header instal was very difficult. I had lifted the body by 3.5 in and that made the steering knuckle hit the header. I had to heat and bend the header (left) to clear the knuckle.
ask a pro near you. good luck.

Message: Well, a year after my truly smart-alec know it all answer, I just removed the 3rd cat, and installed a single 2.5" offset straight thru Dynomax dumped before the axle and it revs to REDLINE without losing power! I know a fella running mid 10's with a 2.5" single exit on a Camaro obviously with no trouble.

Message: I just bought a nice '97 5.2L V8 dakota, and it has dual exhaust. I am not at all mechanically minded and was wondering if this is standard on this model, or was it modified? I only have one muffler.

Message: So,... to bring alive a dead horse here,...
( CLEAR ) BIZZZZZZZZZZZZ Thump,.. Thump,...
Lets talk about the new 2005 Dakota 4.7L a minute Please.
Okay here's my current setup and let me know if you'd recommend a true dual setup on this Dakota.
2005 4.7L Dakota
K&N Drop In.
JBA Headers.
70mm F&B TB
2.5" Single in 2.25" Dual Outs Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 Muffler.
****************************
When I had the headers installed a few days ago I noticed how constrictive the Y-Pipe was going out to the muffler on a stock 2005 dakota really is. (See Picture)

With the 2005's the Cat Converters are included in with the Y-Pipe not separate. I've read and been told that the 2005 Cat's were already a High Flow Cat. JBA doesnt have the High Flow Y-Pipe for the 2005 Dakota's just the Headers and Muffler so far.
So my thought was to cut off the Y at the end in the Y-Pipe after the sensor and before the bends and just run true duals out the rear end.
I was going to use 2 normal 40 series flowmasters. It was just recently suggested to me to make sure that I get an X-Pipe Installed or I'll lose Bottom End. (they didnt says bottom end what)
I've checked Flowmasters Site and they seem to be hip to the H style H-Pipe vs. the X-Pipe. They dont have either for the 2005 Dakota and I'm not even sure the Exhaust Place even has any of those,... I would think they would but i'm not totally sure on it.
When I talked to them today we put the truck up on a lift and they suggested just cutting the Y off and just run the duals out the back and they NEVER said anything about this H or X pipe thingy.
As soon as K&N comes out with a complete Intake Kit I'll get one of those and the same goes for a SuperChips Tuner to so I'll have those when they hit the market.
So,.. Do you suggest True Dual Exhaust?
I also thought of having the Y cut off and having a larger Y put in.
This was all going to happen on this Monday so i know it isnt much time but any Help, Suggestions or Recommendations would be most helpful to me this weekend.
Thanks Guys.

Message: Well DakotaJimbo, unless they've changed the set up. You can't do the cutting and replacing that you want. The Y-pipe on my '02 has a third cat at the end and a third O2-Sensor after that, and if you're in a state that has emissions when they go to read the computer it will show something wrong with that sensor. Now you can get a chip to plug in there but I'm not sure how well they work for performance. The low-end that they're talking about is low - end torque, it will be really doggie and sluggish without the x-pipe due to a unequal pressure through the exhaust (your engine wants to see equal pressure). Now what I was thinking of doing, I was going to weld an O2 bung (the threaded pieece the sensor screws into)in the x-pipe and hope that the one sensor read the exhaust well there, but I haven't tried it yet and I can't tell you for sure what will happen.
