Message: Chris you said
How many R/T's put down 230 HP and 300 lbft with only about $900 in mods (half of that in the exhaust alone)...
Thats funny. I thought my R/T had 245hp and 345lb ft torque with $0 in mods. For roughly $1100 I could have an M1, 50mm TB, and a K&N FIPK. I'm not knocking your 4.7s but c'mon lets be realistic here boys and girls.

Message: Realistic,
I think what he meant to say is those numbers are at the rear wheels. The 4.7L isn't a bad engine but, keep in mind it has a lot of potential as well. The aftermarket is just now starting to catch on. Think about how long it took for the aftermarket to catch on to the 5.2 and 5.9 liter Magnum engine after they began hitting the market in the early 90s. Also, I want to say that I don't think the 360 is crap . I think from the factory it isn't as good compared to one with a few bolt on mods. In fact, I remember reading that the 360 is the most bottled up Chrysler engine from the factory. With a few mods this engine really comes to life.
As for the person who said the 4.7 isn't a "Hemi" well it's not a true Hemi but, a "Semi-Hemi." The reason for that being is because one side of the combustion chamber wall looks like a flat tire. If you don't believe then here's the link that has some general info for the 4.7L V8. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/47.html

Message: Somewhere here I heard that the new 5 speed auto we have behind these 4.7's are almost an even match for one mated with the 5 speed stick.
Mine works awesome now that I'm used to it. I just don't like how these computer controlled ones retard the engine spark timing as it shifts gears. I think a lot of us would like the jerk it would otherwise make under full throttle!!!
My 1998 Chrysler FWD does the same thing.
I wish there was a re program to change that. I think we lose a fraction of a second when that thing kills the power during the shifts!

Message: Hang on there, STICK. When the Torqueflite hit the road it was the first automatic that could consistently defeat 4-speed sticks at the drags. That's not my opinion, it's historical fact. Who's to say history can't repeat? Maybe not, but typically, the autos give up a gear, and still can win. Lots of times, OEM tranny tuning sucks, but do a few tweaks and the tranny is slammin' so hard the car/truck leaps every time you bang a gear. Now, an experienced stick man will whip a stock automatic....as long as he doesn't miss a gear. Both have virtues, but for consistency, the auto is better. There are very few people who can rip a manual fast enough (without using the clutch), and do it every time, to be successful. Now, these new-fangled sorta 5 speed autos? I dunno if I'd really like that. I don't like having a computer decide for me. I do know that having full manual control in a torqueflite is a great combination of both types of trannies. Just remember, when you say, "That'll never happen," you're basically describing 97% of all the success stories we've ever known.
