I chose mine cause it is bigger than an S-10, looks like a "Man's Truck" and isn't a Ford. Why'd you choose yours.

Second the Dakota is "right size" big nough to be a truck yet small enough to deal with traffic.
Once they introduced the Gen III I just couldn't hold out any more. That is when I got #1. Liked it so much I bought #2.

Message: I had a 1989 2.5 Dak , 2wd standard cab with around 115,000. miles on it. Drove the hell out of it. Never slowed down for anything ,speedbumps , R.R tracks, little streams, nothing! And nothing ever broke! It was a dog,no power, hard to shift, and no power steering, but it never quit. I hit some road construction once so hard I rubbed both front wheels on the bottom of the fenders, just about knocked the fillings out of my mouth, and didn't even knock it out of allignment! . I could take that thing just about anyplace I wanted, and back,no heavy offroading mind you.
I can only hope the 4.7 will last longer, the body will hold up as well, as my '89 didn't seem to ever rust.
Funny thing is now I have a 4x4 v8,and I don't take it anywhere near the places I took my old one!! I want to make this one last as long as I can, and I don't wanna beat it up,even though I know it could handle it.

Message: OK don't laugh. I bought a 98 mazda B3000. I was never into horsepower or engines. I was into custom trucks and stereo systems(I install them). Anyway a friend of mine wanted a stereo in his mustang, 92 GT. I drove it home and fell in love. It made me want a RT really bad, drove it and it wasn't the same. I drove the 4.7l 5 speed the same day and fell in love. No, I'm not saying it was faster, I just love driving a stick. Traded my Mazda in on the spot.
I still kinda wish I bought the RT at this point, due to the aftermarket parts out there. But the 5 speed is so much fun, except in stop and go traffic.

Message: I am a mopar nut. When they put the magnum V-8 in the Dakota it was the first musclecar Dodge had made in like 10 years, it even predated the Viper. So I bought a 93 2wd but when we bought our first house one of the car payments had to go and with a family the minivan won out. Fast forward 7 years and we had moved back to Montana. I figured I had to get a 4wd so I went looking for a 5.9 limited Grand Cherokee to replace my 95 4.0 GC. But after the snow was gone I started thinking about how I drive a 2wd truck all day at work and the 4wd didn't seem necessary. I had test drove a 98 R/T back when the first came out and loved it but was in the Navy and deployed a lot so I didn't want big payments on something that would just sit. So anyway I decedied first to get a 4.7 5-speed RC 2wd but we test drove something like it and couldn't really shift with 3 in the front. My wife was all for a Dakota but she said we either needed an automatic or an extended cab. I thought the RC just looked better and it gave me the excuse I needed to get an R/T. I ordered a 2001 RC R/T in atlantic blue but it got delayed a week at the factory whick would mean it would have to get built about 3 days after the changeover to 2002's. This would have been fine as they weren't going to raise the price on me, but they wouldn't give me the big $2000 rebate. I said no thanks and immediately found a lightly used 2000 yellow RC R/T that I am completely satisified with. I'm so glad I ended up with the yellow and the 2000 -vs- the 2002. Now the only problem is anybody got a set of 15" wheels cheep for snow tires? We are supposed to get snow later next week already!

I got a '97 white SLT+ CC 2wd, 5.2 auto & 3.55 rear. Loaded!! My truck has 64k on it now and still looks and drives like new.
My truck rocks! The only thing I have done to the exterior is a set os 16x8 MHT wheels and 275/60/16 Toyo tires. This truck gets admired everyday.

She sold me the truck for the payoff $8k. It is a SLT, 5.2, with a snugtop hard bed cover. Its loaded. He was not mechanical so I have upgraded it a lot since. I had an old Nissan King Cab (84), but when the chance came for the Dak, I jumped. I drove it home to Atlanta in July and have loved every minute of it. It will stay in our family for good, one way or the other. My bro-in-law was a helluva man and the Dak it one of our links to him. He left four kids under 12 years old and we miss him.

My insurance is 210 a month -- which is considerably lower than the Camaro or Audi. I plan on my next car being a Sedan, prefferably the Audi S4 sometime after college and keep this as the work truck. The Dakota is also a GREAT looking truck.

Message: I love MOPAR,and I have always been a muscle car guy,I only wanted to own old MOPAR muscle. But after using a 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 for a daily driver for 5 years and modifying it and maintaning it all at the same time,I decided I wanted a NEW MOPAR muscle, with reliabilty,A/C,power windows, locks, and mirrors. I had to have a small block V-8,auto trans.,and rearwheel drive, and the ability to be modified to the hilt if need be.So if you think about that you have 3 choices,Camaro, mustang,or Dakota R/T,well its MOPAR OR NO CAR so Dakota R/T it is,and I love it to death, have beat a few camaro and firebirds, and alot of POOPSTANGS,especially the brand new GT's,(G utless T urds). So basically I wanted a modern Mopar muscle car,and you all have seen the Mopar lineup, its an R/T or a Viper.Fully loaded CC R/T $24,000 and 15.11@89mph stock, does .88 G's in the turns,I'll take 2!!!Cant wait to go to the track next weekend, shoting for LOW 14's,praying for traction.

Message: In searching for "the perfect truck" I bought a 4
cyl. 5 spd. Tacoma 4X4 reg. cab- MISERABLE
kidney-busting ride! As reliable as a hammer-
but who cares if you dread driving it.
Sold it and bought a '99 Dakota Reg. Cab-
Solar Yellow Sport V6 5spd for STYLING,
STYLING, STYLING... BUT- wonky ride over
pavement joints, inability to recline seat in reg.
cab enough to get comfortable, MISERABLE
gas mileage and quality control problems
made me...
...reluctantly sell it and buy a Tundra 4X4 CC,
LTD, TRD- Uncomfortable Seating (nice
leather though) and VERY lame styling (but
BIG performance with the V8!!) Several
intangibles about the truck I couldn't get used
to- just too "Japanese" I guess?!?
I concluded I REALLY liked the extended cab
AND the Big V8 power- but wanted an
American truck. And I just REALLY liked
Dodge styling. Also concluded I didn't need
another 4X4 since I own a Jeep Wrangler AND
a 2000 Suburban 4X4.
So... I drove a Ram- wasn't impressed with the
ride. Also didn't like the performance of the V8-
or the mileage of the V10. So...
I sold the Tundra and came HOME to another
Dakota- an '01 CC SLT 4.7 4X2. Bought it for
Dodge styling (NOT as cool as the solar
yellow sport, though), comfortable ride, great
seating, strong PERFORMANCE (BOY does
this truck go with the 4.7!) and best all-around
size.
So far... I'm REALLY pleased with the SLT.
Significantly better mileage than my V6 5 spd.
Dakota, more comfortable than ANY truck I've
ever owned and still has that "gotcha" Dakota
styling.
Looks like the 4th time around- I finally got it
right!

Message: I am a third generation Mopar guy. My grandfather retired from Chrysler Trenton Engine plant as superintendent after 32 years. My uncle was an electrician for the same plant for 30 years before he retired. My dad works for Trenton Engine as a programmer for the line machines. He has 33 years in. I don't work for Chrysler, but I did work 2 years as a Mopar tech for a dealer. So as you can see, my skin is Hemi orange and my blood runs Mopar blue.
I was looking for a truck in 1990 and didn't want a full size. It just happened I found a dealer that had a 1991 Dakota CC 4x4 loaded with a 318. The first year the 318 was offered as a regular option. Though it wasn't a Magnum, it has plenty of go and now serves as my winter driver with 168K miles on it. I stored it for 3 years while deployed in the Marines. I have had that thing everywhere. Sand Dunes, trails, mud, and stuck in a swamp. It's starting to show it's age, but still runs pretty good.
I bought a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0L for longer trips since the 91 Dak was starting to break now and then. The Jeep just wasn't the same. I missed having the V8. No sound compares. I got rear-ended in my Jeep that caused $7500 in damage. They fixed it and I traded it on a new 2001 Dak Sport CC 4x4 4.7L 5sp.
I ordered it from the factory with every option I wanted. Detroit was snowed in when my truck was completed, so I had to wait for the roads to clear in order for them to get it from the factory 20 miles to the dealer. I have 5500 miles on it now and have loved driving every one. It had 1.8 miles on it when I picked it up. It's going to be stored pretty soon when the snow flies and I'll be driving my 1991 the rest of the winter until the snow melts.
Good Luck with your Mopars. Sorry for being long winded, but I can't help showing my Mopar pride.

Message: The long version,
I was looking for a Stratus to replace my daily driver Tempest which was on deaths door. After pricing Strati I found a sweet deal on a 1970 Dodge Dart so I bought that instead figuring I'd have thee Dart for the Summer and the Tempest as a winter beater. I could fix one or the other in the off season, I could save a lot of money over buying a 2 year old Stratus and I'd have a car I've really loved. (Dart)
Well that system lasted two years and then the Tempest had to go so I thought I'd better replace it with something newer, and preferably something I could use to fetch parts for the Dart. I looked forever for a decent Gen II in the $10,000 (can) range with a V-8. no dice.
After about a year of research and a promotion at work I priced a new Gen III Dak with 318 5 sp. 3:92 Traklock RCSB, It was going to be too much for my means and I went back to the Classifieds but looked in the higher price range $15K-$20K and found a 98 318 5 sp. w 3:92 HD Tracklock for the right price (lease buyout). He'd gone over his mileage premium and I'll only be driving it 1/2 year so it worked out nicely.
Stay sane,
Stay Strong!
