 Subject: transmission making funny noises

I was driving down the road and all of the sudden transmission started kicking in and out. now when I put it in reverse is sounds fine for about 2 seconds then it starts sounding like power steering is going out but its coming from the transmission. Could this be a problem with torque converter or do I just need to get the whole transmission replaced.

any fluid in it ?
pull the pan of if there is to see if any debris has collected there . some metal is fine shavings or chucks is bad, an indication a planatary may be on the way out. rubber,or plastic well indicate a seal or band issue. alot of either well require the removal of the tranny for a rebuild.
if you find nothing but the normal powder collecting around the magnet something well have to be adjusted or an electrical component may have to be replaced

Yeah that was the firs thing that I checked was the fluid, its full and still red so thats good I will have to drop the tranny pan to change transmission fluid anyway, I will look to see if anything has fallen out

? Transmission??Drive-train? Whenever d/d/q/4x4 decelerates it make 'clicking/ratchetting' noise above 20 mph. Funny thing is if enough fuel feed is maintained it doesn't make the noise; noise made only when it's coasting. Put trans in neutral & noise still persists. Noise occurs only when coasting, with no gas (pedal) being fed to maitain engine 'torgue/load-pull'.(!??)

I just purchased a 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan and the man who sold it to me said he had the tran. rebuilt by the dealler 20K miles ago, he however could not find the paperwork. All is fine but there is a cherping clicking sound when you are in D or R, fluid is clean and red with no burnt smell, any ideas?? It has 123609 miles as of today. Shifts fine with out any hesitation and no weird downshifting as of yet.
