Subject: downstream O2 sensor replacement IP: Logged
Message: I want to remove my downstream oxygen sensor and replace it with a homemade resistor. Does anyone know what resistance the ecm wants for optimum fuel/air mixture?

Message: Why do you want to replace the rear O2 with a resistor?? Just pull the O2 out of the exhaust, and attatch it to the frame rail, and you won't have a problem. I've ran mine like that for voer a year with no codes at all.

Message: I thought the downstream sensor relays the efficiency of the cat to the ecm. The up and downstream sensors are supposed to work together to determine the fuel/air ratio. If the sensor is on the frame rail, wouldn't it be reading an excessively lean condition and therefore enrich the mixture?

Message: The O2 sensor after the cat, only measures the efficiency of the cat, and has no effect on air/fuel ration. If you have it tid to the frame rail, then it will sense the "cleaner" air than the pre-cat O2 and not throw a code due to cat doing it's job. Also, just putting a resistor on will not work since the sensor sends variable readings back, and just a solid resistor will send the same signal back all the time.
