Alright, I love my 5.2 4x4 but I'm starting to think I need a little more interior room. I have an ex-cab and I'm thinking of a Quad-cab. unfortunately, they don't make the 360 with a stick shift. I'm concerned about the availability of aftermarket performance for the 4.7. So I'm curious how far some of you have taken performance upgrades. Let me know what you've done, what the results are, and if there are any adverse effects. Thank you.

Duner has the baddest 4.7 I know of. His is turbocharged. The 4.7 seems to respond very well to forced induction. No adverse effects as long as you don't get carried away with boost levels.
2000 4.7 CC auto, clear corners, Magnaflow catback, Kenne Bell s/c.

I really wish I had more than a 56k modem. The turbo was a custom job, right? What did it cost? I'm not sure a turbo will be right for me. I think its awesome that Duner was able to do that! I just don't think I have the resources available to me to add a turbo. Maybe a supercharger. I'd like to start with the engine itself (heads, cam, etc...) then maybe consider the supercharger. Any other Bad 4.7s? Also, mine will see some off-road trails. Nice truck Duner! I'll bet you surprise the heck out of the sports car crowd.

I guess what I really want to know is; how much horsepower can I get off the crank on a naturally aspirated 4.7 by doing some work on the engine (heads, cam, etc...) and bolt-ons, not loose reliability?

Thanks for the compliment Manuel. You can get to about 300 hp at the crank with what's available without going to power adders.
Mildly ported heads, HO cams, HO intake, 70mm F&B TB, Cold air intake and a full 3" exhaust including Cat should get you right at about 300 hp. All that is available and shouldn't effect reliability at all. Depending upon the model year you are talking about - the addition of some PCM programming will help uncover quite a few additional HP also.

Dunner, I commend you on your fab skillz, you got a sweet ass ride there.
I was wondering what the white ext cab you raced in that clip had? sounds like a very loud SC or turbo himself.
What turbo would you suggest for a V8? I know AR has a bunch to do with it and I'm just makin notes.

Thanks for the reply Duner. So are you including the PCM programming in that 300 hp estimate, or will that get me even more out of it? Also, I noticed that the 4.7 stock is rated at 230 hp. I could swear that they were at 235 when they were first introduced. What model year had the best 4.7?

When I bought my 2002 QC 4.7 it said 235 hp. It has only one cat..no pre-cats.

All of the 4.7 Quad cabs have 230,... only the Regular and Extended cabs have 235. It's in the books, read it... and as for handi2,... ur a lier,... all the quads have been only 230. go to the dealer, go to the manual... check ur stuff before u talk big.

DAKX01, you need to put the crack pipe down. Taken directly from the Dodge website:
MagnumŪ Next Generation 4.7-liter V8
235 horsepower*
Lightweight composite intake manifold
High-flow cast aluminum cylinder heads
*Quad CabŪ models with Federal Emissions. 230 horsepower on Quad Cab California vehicles and all regular cab and Club CabŪ models.
So, unless you live in California, the QCs have 235 HP and the CC and RC have 230 HP.
Next time do your homework before making an ass out of yourself.

Thanks for providing the link, Andrew. I guess the dealer can't even be trusted to read their own materials. I think that just made my decision a lot clearer. There's no way I'm going to give up a manual tranny for a measley 10 hp. Thanks again Andrew!

There are a lot of guys here who have some pretty decent running (speed) trucks, but I really have to say that Duner's is the top dog for a street driven truck. I can't wait to port/polish my heads and get larger valves and LW pistons! I'm freakin' stoked right now!

You will need to do something to fool the O2 sensors into thinking they are still there. I've heard about O2 sims but don't know much about them. Might be easier to remove your clutch fan (if you haven't already). That might be good for 5 hp.

GMAN has a show truck. Turbos look pretty, but until we see dyno numbers or 1/4 mile time slips, he's just another Fast & Furious Victim.
JSpec2k, even if you do beat Duner, would you be able to drive your kids to school in your 4-banger Honda? Once you drop the kids off, will your 4-Banger Honda pull a trailer full of sand dune toys out to Glamis, CA?

Stock pistons
Stock intake manifold (maybe HO version from Jeep)
Has run as much as 14 psi of boost with no problems
Fuel is provided by Vortech FMU & auxillary pump, with 24# injectors
PCM was burned by a tuner who no longer flashes Dodges.

Thanks for the info Alex. I have a stupid question wouldnt you need to put low compression pistons? I was under the impression that the stock pistons would melt down. I am kind of new to forced induction. I have saved the money and was interested in either a S/C or some kind of turbo setup. Is Duner using an Intercooler?

I have a 4.7l 5 spd rc and has JBA shorty header (searching for long tubes), no cat, flowmasters true duals, & home brew intake. The truck runs strong it runs a 14.3 but i am looking for more power. What do you guys recomend? S/C or Turbo. I mean if I dont have to change pistons better but I was under that inpression. A mechanic friend of mine said that the intake may split under pressure because its plastic.
