Message: the best size TB to go with depends on what you have done to the engine. bigger is not always better.
i switched from a 51.75 fastman to a 50mm F&B and i did notice a bit of a HP increase on the butt dyno.
whith eveything that i have on my engine, it still needs the velocity of the smaller TB

Message: daksmack, if the "you dont know" thing was directed to me, NO I DONT KNOW. i have no idea what you have done to your engine, because you didnt give any info. so i wrote, go with what size will best suit your engines needs.
if you have, or are going to put a turbo or blower on it, get a 72mm. if you are just putting a air filter and a muffler on it and call it a day, put the smaller one on it

Message: Chill out Kotaon20s... I did tell you what I had. I clearly said "what works well on a '00 4.7" didnt I? I didnt list any mods because I wanted know the answer based on stock figures. My question was asked because of the stock TB for '00 being 65mm and the '01 being 68mm. I just wanted to know why the two different sizes with the same HP output for both years. This would help me determine if going to the 68mm would require any mods (like a K&N cold air which I DO have) to keep from loosing torque.

well, duner has a 2000 4.7 too, but what would work good on his 12 sec 4.7, might not work as good for you.
your 1st statement sounded like you wanted the absolute best TB for a 4.7L (65mm vs 68mm vs 70m vs 72mm)
thats why i wrote my spew about you not listing mods
now it seems like you want to know why dodge changed the TB size in 2001.
which is it?

Message: I think the problem with too big a tb is intake velocity will slow down to the point where low rpm power will suffer. It's the old trade-off between better high rpm breathing and low rpm sluggishness.

Message: Wow, what a smart idea. Lets piss off a person who knows these engines inside and out and then get attitude with him when hes the only person who could actually help you. Kota ON 20s is one of the most knowledgable people on this board, most people gave up because you guys are freaking retards.
DakSMack, you really do have trouble communicating. He was going to help you, knows exactly what you need, and you gave him attitude. He was still willing to help you and you pissed on his boots again. Brilliant.

Answer--- this isn't true to the statement above.
:)
Need more info to determine which is the 'correct' TB size to use--- F&B 70mm works best all around on a truck that is either stock+1 mod (exhaust, intake), and more (HO cams, EHO cams, KRC Cams, HO intake, NX)-- Go further than that-- the 72mm (Turbo, KB SC, 2 power adders, higher compression milled heads, etc. etc)

Message: First of all, I don't work for DC's R&D.
Second, I always heard that the 2000 4.7 was rated at 240hp, and the 2001+, at 235.
It has been said, that when they added the three cats in 2001, it cost them some HP, so they upped the TB size by 3mm, to a 68mm, to make some of the loss up.
Personally, I dremel tool ported my 68mm TB on my 2001. Oh yea, it pulls wheelies now! J/K
When people like CW, etc. used to post here, this was the general consensus from the group, regarding the size difference.
Somewhere, someone, in a town, in a galxy far, far away, posted that putting a 72mm TB on a stock motor dynoed an increase of 8hp at the wheels change.

Message: Wait a damn minute, Im getting flamed for a question I asked that Kota20's says cant be answered due to lack of information.
Then rtdkota quotes me exactly and gives a respectable answer.
Then Kota20's flames him by saying that rtdkota got me wrong: "sam you RETARD!! he wanted to know why dodge went from a 65mm TB to a 68mm TB!! " Thats EXACTLY what I was asking.
So what is it Kota20's, do you not understand the question or are you just being a jerk? If you dont understand then dont reply.
And Daker777 "he knows these engines inside and out"? Doesnt he have a 5.2? And even if he does know them inside and out, I could care less if he just wants to play high and mighty behind a keyboard.
Im not here to argue with you, if you want to help then thank you. If you dont then dont. If I can help I will. But theres no need to get on a high horse and talk down to people just because you think you know more about 4.7's then them.
Ive been rodding for 20 years now, and came here to learn about something new. Hell, I can twist this damn Dakota in half if I started with a 5.2. But the 4.7 is new and Im here to listen. The last thing I want to do is get on everyones bad side. But hell, I can sit here and let Kota thrash me for no reason.
Scroll up and read my third post. I tryed to ask you to chill, I tryed to clerify the question, and I tryed to explain why I asked the question to start with.
So whats it gonna take? Gimme a hug....

if you read the 2nd post, the guy was asking a question about a TB for a 5.2L. i purposly made that broad statement to cover both questions on 2 totaly differant engines with one post.
"Then rtdkota quotes me exactly and gives a respectable answer."
yeah the 1st part of his answer was..." Need more info to determine which is the 'correct' TB size to use"
I SAID that in my 2nd post!
im here to help YOU. i when i said i need to know whats on your engine to give you the right recomendation, or ask you for info, you give me the "so you dont know huh?"
by the way, i do like to help people....when (Brig) daker777 blew his headgaskets to he11, i went to his house, and changed them for him. took 2 days of my time, and i didnt charge him a dime. why?... because i enjoy working on cars, and helping people. so dont think my goal here is to rag on you.
