Subject: distributor IP: Logged
Message: i want to replace the distributor in my 92 dak 318, how hard is it to replace . did 92s have problems with distributors. the truck has a small miss to it but not all the time . the oil pressure gauge drops when its at idle. but goes back up when i accellerate. most time the gauge is in the middle during idle. please help

Message: the distributor are not hard to change at all. remove the hold down and bolt(1/2" head), remove the cap and note the location of the rotor, and pull it out. when you put the new one in, point the rotor in the same place as the old one and drop into place. very simple. why does the oil pressure drop? sludge in the pan? hook a manual oil pressure guage to it and verify just to make sure. if the pick-up screen is sludged up, put a pump and screen in it and clean it along with the bottom end of the engine and you should be good to go for a few 10,000 miles. done it many times. if you can afford it, replace the sending unit just to be sure. cheap insurance.
