Message: I have a 2000 Quad and had an extang black max... This was very difficult to remove and put back on expecially when cold... This winter I purchased a "Fold-a-cover" and this thing is great... folds in 4 sections, or open just front or back (locking) and also locks the tailgate... If you want in my opinion the best looking/functioning cover for your quad cab go with the fold-a-cover

Message: I have a fold-a-cover LS on my 02QC and like it a lot.
>is it better than the one made by advance?
That I don't know.
>is it decent quality
Yes, I think it is, I had a problem with a rail gasket sticking to the top (real hot day) and coming off but they sent me a new one immediately. I don't think it is a common problem though. Overall I it seems like a real solid product, I have had mine for several months now. I now hit the gaskets with 303 protectant (or Armorall) occasionally (well...once) just in case, it's a good idea anyway.
>can you take the whole thing off if you need to
Yes, you would just remove 2 bolts, no big deal, I have never had to though.
>how is the install?
It installs fairly easy, takes an hour or two, remember to "measure twice" and take your time to get it right. The rails are 3M taped to the bed rails, supposedly the 3M adhesive is easily removable with alcohol if you ever want to remove. The tailgate piece is a bit of a pain if you have the stock bedliner, email me if you get a foldacover and have this problem. All in all the install was decent.
>do you have to drill?
No, it clamps to the underside of the bedrails. 3M adhesive tape does most of the work for the side rails and the tailgate strip which is how they lock the tailgate.
>does it keep the bed dry?
Pretty much, I have had no problem with backpacks and such back there when it was raining hard.
>i hate to buy something without seeing it first >so some candid feedback would be good
The fold-a-cover works for me, I keep kayaking and hiking gear back there quite often and it is secure and no worries. It is easy to open the front, back or back 3 panels for whatever you need. I thought the permanent rails would bother me but it is not an issue for me now.
I didn't like the hinged fiberglass covers because they make it hard to get stuff that is in the front of the bed. I didn't like soft covers because of the winter problems and I don't like snaps and stretching and such. That narrowed it to folding covers and rolling covers which were more expensive and more difficult to remove, took up 6-8" of my already short bed and had more moving parts to fail.
The lock inserts they supplied a few months back were kinda cheap but someone online tipped me off by telling me they had better replacements if you called them. I called and they sent them free, quick install and I like the new locks/keys.
feel free to email me at dsenglish@charter.net for more info. I don't hit this board much lately.

Message: I've got a roll-top cover from Pace-Edwards on my 99 5.2L 4x4...and I love it! It rolls away easily for large bulky items like a jet ski. It was a piece of cake to install. It only takes up about 8" of cargo space in the front of the box and it has drain tubes that extend through the bed drain holes.
Problems: it wasn't cheap and the lock tends to freeze up in slushy, winter weather. It can jam when rolling closed if the side rails aren't adjusted just right.
I've had mine on for 3 years with no signs of wear and tear. Well worth the investment! Lots of compliments from other truck owners.

Message: Well I've got a soft tonneau cover made by "Access Cover" I bought it from a doctor who lives by the Mayo Clnic for $75.
I figured I couldn't go wrong... Boy was I right! I've had this cover for a little over 4 years and I've only had one problem. The cross bars that support the cover that lay across the bed kept shifting, so I just did a little drilling, put a cotter pin in and it fixed it! Never had another problem. And up here in Minnesota it tends to get cold... And alot of the soft tonneaus up here have alot of sag in them. Mine looks the same as the day I put it on!
I do want to get a hard cover that sits "flush" with the bed rails.. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Drew
