Subject: Time for Synthetic? IP: Logged
Message: When would be the right break-in mileage to switch to synthetic oil. I have 3000 miles on the 2003 4.7 now. It's time for an oil change - what's the opinion?

Message: I have a bunghole, and of course an opinion.
Around 3K is where I switched to Mobil 1, and used it ever since. Never seen sludge emulsion build up under the filler cap, or under the baffle that they put in in 2001 to try and hide the emusion buildup. I now have 34K on my 4.7, NO probs/leaks.
I vote do it.

Message: Go right ahead and do it. I would advise that if you are spending the money for a synthetic make sure it is a true synthetic. Mobil 1 is the most readily available as it can be purchased at a "mart" or an auto parts store. Amsoil, Redline, or Royal Purple are sold by dealers or the companies themselves. Most of the other brands are group III hydrocracked petroleum oils. They aren't bad oils but why pay big money for something and not get what you desire.
