Message: I have a 2000 Dakota sport 4x4 extended cab (2door). It has a 4.7 liter v8, I believe 4 speed ..automatic. I bought it used in November with 28000 miles. I get between 12-14mpg highway. This is devestating with gas prices. I am stuck with this gas hog unless I can produce a very huge $ to even come close to my pay off. It's to bad, I have no other complaints about this truck.

Message: Don't buy a truck if you cannot afford truck fuel costs. I drive 600 miles a week in my Dakota ('02 2wd 4.7l soon to be '03 4wd) and my wife drives 550 miles a week in her '02 grand cherokee (4.7l). If gas $$ is tight you should not buy a truck as a primary vehicle. I have seen this too MANY times on this site.

Message: Yeah a friend of mine has a Chevy 4x4 with an 8.1L V8, automatic, and 33in mud terrains. He's always complaining about fuel costs. But then again wouldn't you if the best you could get is 11mpg? He gets about 9mpg in the city.
My dak gets 15-17 city and 18-21 hwy.
