I agree with you RedDakota, I came here for advice on mileage. You guys want to bitch and whine, get on a chat line and bitch to each other in person. With that said, I have a 2000 quad 2wd posi, 4.7 auto, when I bought it new I checked mileage at 800 miles and gave it first oil change, got just under 17 hwy. Checked it again at 11,000 and a non windy day, ended up with just under 22 mpg hwy and that's with a topper on it, looks like all I'm going to do for now is switch to synthetic, any more and I'll never see it pay off.

One thing I got to say, truck, car, suv, whatever, the American auto industry sucks the bag on mileage, they have the technology for better, they won't, they are all in with the oil companies, and the hell with the environment.

If you want good gas mileage, by a Geo Metro or an old Honda Coupe (the one from the '70's with a 500cc engine).

If you want a truck, by a truck. But with the truck comes truck mileage. If you look a little deeper on the Internet, there are technical articles on the subject.

Gas mileage is depenedent on may factors. Weight, frontal area, drag, parasitic drag, rolling resistance, drive train friction, method of clutching power to drive train (clutch vs. torque converter), and even... Why yes! Driving habits!

My 2WD with 4.7 and manual transmission with 3.55 gears gets up to 23MPG and VERY rarely below 18.9MPG... It would get better if I had not ordered tire & handling rims and tires along with their greater mass needing to be accelerated.
