I just put 4.10 gears and 27" tall tire on my truck, 255/35/20's, which is 2 inches shorter than stock, meaning my rear end is like 4.41 gears. I just drove from Dallas to Arkansas and averaged 18 miles to the gallon, 75 mph (2850rpm). The higher rpm actually helped my gas mileage. I did have 3.55's, 75 at 2100 rpm.

thats where it begins to make more torque, and you can back off the gas a little, since I dropped tire size from 255/75/16 to 245 50's It seems like I dont have to speed as much, more like 70 instead of 80 feels like the "sweet spot" in the pedal.... As far as mileage, I usually get about 17 mpg avg. and I do the same thing as the other guy that likes to outrun anybody that drives on the same road, it's like a bad habit. Like that BMW, or that V6 Firebird, mustang, or that Fiero, or that, or that, or that, ........

WarDamnEagle,

Man, you lowered truck pieces of S*** really piss me off. What the F*** is the purpose of a truck???????????? I believe it has a bed. That usually carries stuff, heavy stuff. Usually, your "truck" needs some sort of suspension to carry "stuff." You say that you hate rice burners, WHY?, you are one of them. Buy a fricken Honda and get a spoiler and leave the trucks to the rest of us.
No hard fealings.
Just my opinion,

I do have a lowered Dakota???????????? That was that no-penis ass-burglarin Dark-pretty dude that has nothing better to do than crack on our lowered trucks that'll WAX his big heavy a$$ piece in any race possible (except through the mud) and is just pissed off that he gets sucky gas mileage and finds little need for his 4wd so he cracks on us.
BTW, not only does it have a bed, it can STILL tow, and with the right airbags and mods, probably more than your truck Dark-Ugly..

Dick

Why the f_uck do you post bulls_hit like that? Just because you know we don't know who you are so we can't come and kick your a_s_s for ragging on MOST EVERYBODY in this forum????????????

Pick another site. Prick

blackbeauty,

What the hell ran up your ass? I didn't say you had to like lowered trucks, but I personally do. My truck is a truck, and I use it as one. It sure as hell isn't ricey at all. I don't have a problem with foreign cars, I just don't like the ones that go overboard. Same with anything. Today I had a street bike in the bed of my truck while I pulled a trailer. Last week it had a motor and transmission in the bed. So what? It handles the tasks of an everyday truck and then some. Just because I like to go fast instead of playing in the mud doesn't mean my truck can't still be a truck. Sorry if my truck isn't your style, but to each his own and get the f**k over it

WarDamnEagle,
Sorry man, We all like Dodges, especially Dakotas! I prefer using a truck for towing, hauling and 4x4ing. But, as you could see in my profile, (granted I don't have a picture yet, coming soon)I also like my truck to look nice. I guarantee that I don't have a dent or scratch on my shiny black paint, but I also love to challenge my almost stock 4x4 truck to some challenging terrain. No offense to you or other Dakota owners, I just don't like the idea of lowering a pickup. Sorry!

Blackbeauty,

That's cool. I don't have a problem with 4x4s or anybody else. Everyone has tastes of their own and that's what makes them do what they do to their trucks. If I had a 4x4 I'd have lifted it, but I don't so I lowered it. I like playing in the mud too, I just don't use my truck. I guess that makes me a redneck too. It's ok though, I live in AL, I'm used to it. It's all good

Not that it was a put down, he simply stated a known fact. Lowered trux cant do the work that a regular height truck can do, you just don't have the suspension travel. Period. If you want a toy, great, you got a damn nice "car with a cargo box"
But it is no longer a real truck.

I can agree somewhat, but with a nice Trac-Lok, a good set of airbags, a free-flowing intake and exhaust, and a good low gear ratio,
----------------------------------------------
I COULD PULL A STOCK 4WD ANYDAY
----------------------------------------------
(but you couldn't use 4-low ).

And, the load capacity could actually exceed that of a 4WD with the bags well pressurized. Haven't you seen those Low-Rider Dually's. Are you gonna tell me you can outpull them too?

Too many variables besides suspension travel. Load capacity is only relative, and NOT dependent on travel.

It'll always be a real truck, probably for a longer time than a 4wd.

Lifted or lowered who cares as long as it looks pimp. my 2wd dak was lowered now it's lifted I had 17inch rims now I have 15x10's my truck looks as hard if not harder then alot of 4x4daks I've seen.

and with my no restriction exhaust and intake and kenne-bell optimizer II plus the powertrax lockright i can run with 4x4's atleast those without lockers no problem. yet to have any 4x4 show me up in mud. If it weren't for this dam rack and pinion steering my truck would be even higher and could definately dhow up a 4x4 or two.

Okay. I guess we all have our opinions on what it means to be a truck. Workability, however, is somthing that requires us to leave opinions at home and let the trux talk. If you need to go into a summer fallowed field and pick rocks or bails, the first thing that you will notice with a lowered truck, is that you are hung up. Locker or no locker, hung up is hung up. #2; Tires can also make or break the deal, to high of profile and you are off the bead under heavy loads, with super low profiles you've got damaged rims as soon as you hit a rock while heavily loaded. A truck that is lifted too much is as useless as the one that is to low. I believe that the engineers go to great pain to produce that perfect medium for us. look at your factory load ratings. sure an air bag setup will help your suspension, but all they do is transfer the load directly onto your axels, overloading the bearings, not to mention your poor tires. As far as lockers are concerned, if you are loaded, a posi is easier on your axels. When you are empty they are great. I got one too, with it, and the assistance of my front diff and lower gearing, there is not a 2wd that will come close to me in the snow. 1 more thing: a fancy exaust system does not make a good truck, a better truck.
Hope I haven't pissed on anybodys roses, just lettin the work trux talk. Leave the toys in the parking lot at the job site boys. Let those who are men drive the real trux.
