Hey. I have a 96 dakota with the 3.9 V6. I am getting bored of its power and am becoming interested in putting a 5.2 or a 5.9 liter in there. But where do you get the new engines? Please tell me some websites and the price ranges. Thank you very much and any help at all is appreciated.

First you'll have to decide between:
New (crate, equivilent to what was in the stock trucks)
Used (pulled from a similar year)
or already hopped up crate engines. (ie: 408 stroker)

They all have thier comprimises, with price being a major one.

You should get the 4.7 with a 5 spd from a totalled truck and the wiring harness to go with. I'll bet you could find a low mileage unit for around $2750...

4.7 would be a major undertaking on a 96 as a 96 never came with a 4.7. Dont get me wrong, it can be done but its not a simple "plug and play" situation.
I recomend a 318 or better yet a 360mag, either can be found @ car-part.com.
That link has the best data base I've ever seen for used parts.

If you want to go new then get a 360 crate engine from Mopar Performance, a replacement engine from a dealer will be higher and have less performance.

Good luck.
