WEll, the time has come that i must face the facts..i'm stuck with this damn truck for ever...Only way i'm gettin rid of it, is if i give it away....i tried trading and dealers must think i was born yesterday...i know the economy is in the crapper and people would rather buy new so they can get that 0% financing, but holy cats, I would think i could at least get somewhat out of my truck...i'm gussing they where, 25, 26 new, and now the best offer so far was 10....now if it where a Lightning...this thing would be gone...and for a good price...all this R/T is a sticker truck with a Ram 360 in it and some fancy wheels....nothing more...imy question is how the hell did NADA figure 17k for retail and 14 for trade in??cause i'm not seeing those numbers...feel free to bash my haed in with your imput, cause i shoulda been smacked the day i brought this thing home....peace out....

Nothing is getting good trade in right now. I only got 12.5k for my 99 4x4 with all options available except full-time transfer case, even though nada and kelley low values were 14k and 13.3k. However, it got traded in on an invoice deal.

I too am having a hard time selling mine. I have had so many people look at it but never buy it, it is becoming a real hassle. I'am actually selling it for a lot less than I owe just to get rid of it. Don't get me wrong I love this truck, but trying to sell it is a joke.

If it were in Canada it would sell in less than a week.

In Toronto a R/T does not last for a week on a lot. They are selling for aprox $23,500 cdn for a 2000 model year with about 60,000 km. prices obviously vary with condition of truck etc...

This is great considering my new one is on order for $29,800 cdn plus tax of course.

my 2000 has 85k miles and on trade I am getting $8k, the KBB trade in for it is $9500 and the privat party is $11,5... that is without a lot of the things I put into it that is going with the truck.

I am taking a hit on trading this in but the market on used trucks jsut is not there. The truck is absolutely immaculate and I have not even had one nibble... Nothing in the 4 weeks I have been advertising it...

LMAO...you act like you're trying to sell a freakin Viper. It's a pickup truck for christs sake! Did you think it was an investment when you first bought it? 99% of used RTs are beat to hell. You can get a brand new, loaded,CC for under 22,000-23,000...if you pay anymore than that, you're a sucker. Quit whinin and take your loss.... life sucks,eh?

I've had another pickup...not a Dakota...for sale since August. It's a '98 with only 53K on it, and is clean as a whistle. I agreed to sell it for $400 below what I owe on the note, and I had one guy just a couple of weeks ago want to buy it, but he backed out at the last minute, saying his "retirement" wasn't in as good of shape as he'd like, so he was going to "back off". I've probably spent $100 in newspaper ads, plus had it advertised on the internet on 2 websites for 90 days each without a call or an email. I'll never try to sell another vehicle on my own, I don't need the aggravation.

For sure cars are not an investment. I was jsut stating that noone wants anything used right now for the same reasons I am buying new.. so if you are looking used you are going to get a great deal...

About 6 months after I bought my 2002 RC R/T for 19,700 I was in a local used car guys office and he had a "black book" which is what the car lots will actally pay for used cars. My 2002 R/T was 13,800 !!!! Only 6 months old and it had already lost $6,000.....thats insane.

Because, people are also reading the stories
about the ball joints, the paint, the funny
idle, the... you get the point?

Most people will also toss it around town, wear
3/4 of the rubber off, never touch the oil (or
maybe even the windshield washer or tire
pressure), run over a couple of curbs, find out
they can't get all their junk in the cab either,
so try to sell it after 4 or 5 payments. I'd
never buy a used 4-by (around here, anyway) 'cuz
people acutally use them for 4-wheeling too
(although no rock-crawling).

Well I has similar issues with trying to trade in my '98 Dakota. In fact I was only offered $3,500 for the truck on trade, in which I immediately got up from the desk and headed out the door. With in a month, I sold the truck for $7,500 (and I took a big hit).

Now everyone knows that buying a vehicle will be one of the worst investments in life, but come on...$3,500 on trade. I only wanted to get 7,000 on trade and I under both the NADA and KBB.

What's is really sad is that there will be people that would take that trade and not think twice about it.

It's not just Dakotas or R/T or pickups, it's all used cars. My brother has a WRX which some would consider the ultimate sports car for a Montana climate, they sell a ton of them new at the local Subie dealer, but he can't get a call on it, it was loaded form the factory with a 27,000 MSRP and it's a 2002 with about 15,000 miles on it and He will only be getting $17,500 from a dealer. He was asking $19,500 in the ad (front page color photo in the local autofinder) and got 1 call in 3 weeks. There was a local 2001 Lightning traded in at the Ford dealer for $2000 under the KBB trade in, or wholesale number which is about the lowest book out there. Some dealers I know have the reports form the most recient auctions and there are very nice, lightly used 2001's selling all over for what seems like 1/2 of the new price. It's doesn't matter if it's a v-6 Camary, supercharged pickup, or luxury SUV, the used car market is just dirt cheep.
