Subject: 3:92 or 4:10 gears? IP: Logged
Message: I'm planning on putting on the 33 tires very soon to. I have a 99 Dak 5.2L 4x4 with 3:55 gears with an automatic transmission currently running 32x11.5x15 tires.
At 70mph in overdrive I'm running just a tad over 1900 RPM.
Question?
Could someone tell me what RPM levels I'd be running at with 3.92 gears and 4.10 gears with 33x12.5.15 tires??
I tried those tire calculators on two different web sites and apparently I'm not smart enought to figure out how to use them. I'm concerned about gas milage but I do some towing so I need something better than the stock 3:55 which jumps in and out of overdrive as it is with the 32 inch tires.
I think I'll also need one of those "true speed" things. But if someone who knows how to use the tire calculators could figure the new RPM levels for me I'd appreciate it.
thanks

Message: With 33" tires @ 70mph I got:
3.92 gears 1927rpm
4.10 gears 2016rpm
I would go with 4.10 gears, otherwise your going to kill your performance with anything taller.

Message: Thanks R/Truck
4:10 definitley sounds like the best option. I don't drive much faster than 70 so that RPM range would be perfect.
appreciate it, I'm going with 4:10s.

Message: Definately 4:10's.......I just put 4.56's in my R/T and they still aren't as stiff as I would like.

Message: 4.10's all the way... have 3.92 with 28" tires... figure about .1 in gear for every inch of tire is the easiest way to figure it out.. so from 28 to 32 is 4 inches... so from 3.55 you would be at 3.95 and with the heavier tires the 4.10 will be a good idea... you will be taching about 50-75 more RPM than was stock with the 28's
