 Subject: new trany for my 1993 V8

Hello all i'm looking for a new transmission for my 1993 V8 dakota. It has had two A-518's in it. it has 340k on it but the motor still runs good. I need to no what all transmissions and what years will fit it other then A-518's?

If you want to lose teh OD you could go with a 727, but I would stay with the 518. Since it seems this is all you are putting cash into $2000 evey 100k miles or so is a pretty cheap truck to own.
Do you have a trans cooler?

check out buying a better trans and it should last you longer. Trans cooler is a must. I saw you can get a 15X12 inch one for $55 for the dakota. I dont have the link offhand though.

I have a 93 with the 518 and have numerous problems with the tranny. I rebuilt it with some Borg-Warner clutches, installed the trans-cooler and a shift kit, no problems since. The Texas heat combined with 100mph plus on the highway for lengthy runs tore up my overdrive. But the trans-cooler will not disappoint you, it is a must!

I also have 1993 dakota v-8 4x4 was wondering what cars, trucks etc will work interchange of tranny some one said 727 will this mess up computer. I dont care if I have overdrive or not its just a run around town beater? Any help would be helpful. thanks Dirtstang

The 727 won't mess up the computer. The absence of an overdrive will. So, swap in computer for a stickshift unit that has the same engine.
