Subject: Tranny Fluid change Instructions? IP: Logged
Message: Id like to change my tranny fluid in my 92. I know that you have to drop the pan, then take out the filter and replace it with a fresh one. Is there anything else i should do? Thanks!

Message: You might consider letting a lube shop do the change for you. They have a machine that draws the old fluid out ensuring every bit is removed. Just dropping the pan will leave a slight amount of old fluid.

Message: First thing I would check, seeing as how you have a 4x4, is the u-joints. Its simple to rule out by crawling under the truck and checking for play in the drive shafts. Make sure your on level ground, leave it in park and try to move the shafts. If there is play, thats prob your problem.

Message: hey any of you guys know how to change the oil for my muffler bearings, and the grease in my brake joints? If the guy has to ask a basic question like that he prolly has no mechanical knowledge at all, advising him might be a "nice" thing to do but if he messes up are you going to help him pay to get it fixed by a pro? I thought not! The best thing to do when someone askes a question like that is to send him to a local shade tree type that does know and can walk him through the process one step at a time. What happens if he mistakes the oil dipstick for the tranny dipstick and the tranny fluid goes to the wrong place, or he empties the "pan" by removing the oil pan instead, then adds however much tranny fluid to the oil dipstick? I know that for most of us that is basic but for the guy you are trying to "help" it is way more then that!

Message: So unsuremechani, what was I supposed to do? Cuss him out for asking for help? Looks to me like he IS trying to do things the right way by "asking" before doing. Save your insults for the lady in your life. We all had to start somewhere. Do you think the school that certifies you to work on other peoples cars has to teach you how to fuel your truck? No, you had to hear how from someone. Go sign on to your AOL instant messenger to talk sh*t to people. Were here to talk trucks.

Message: hey unsuremechani, all he was doing was asking for a little help and making sure everything that he needed to do. It's better to ask and make sure you know what you're doing. There is no reason to send him to a shop. I personally don't like anyone working on my truck other than me and I know a lot of people are this way. This is what the forums are for. If you don't know something, you ask

Message: Ohh yeah and another thing. I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OIL AND A TRANNY DIPSTICK THANKYOU! I just didnt know where to fill the tranny with fluid. Do you fill your oil for your motor through your dipstick, i think not. You do it through your valve cover. So F!@# off to you guys that you think your all MR. Knowitalls!

Message: where to start .
when i first started turning wrenches on anything i cant remember.
my first car was an 85 chrysler laser. a $100 dollar special the car didnt run,and got it dragged home for a case of beer.dad was over sea's all the time, mom was no help my friends knew less than i did. there was no interenet or course to take a school. my family is not close so not even an uncle to call. when working on my car i got more crap and abuse ,like you dont know what your doing, stop that you kill some one, do you really think you can fix that. she ran for two years before dying upside down in a ditch
to mycredit today, i have swapped trannies, rebuilt engines, and have a good comprehension of an electrical schematic. ive worked on light and heavy duty equipment. i learned to weld and do some basic fitting
i was one my own for the most part, with nothing or no one to use for information.
this is the information age, this is the information highway. for some one to slam sombody looking for information,on an information highway
get real. theres a big pot in your kitchen, put it on your head and beat it with a hammer. thats about as dumb as you sound
