Message: i just bought a 2001 dakota r/t cc 3 days ago and have a shifting problem. ive read a few posts about the same problem. it wont shift out of first gear when i have it floored , i have to ease of the throttle a bit. it has 31000 miles on it and they only gave me the remainder of 3yr36k warrenty . so i have only 5000 miles left for those who cant add. i called the dealer i bought it from and he said it is normal and there is no fix at all. i didnt believe him so i called another dealer he said the same thing. i didnt believe him either so i called some local transmission shops till i found a guy who knows alot about dodge transmissions, only took me 3 calls by the way , anyways he said he has been asked this question before and he tells me the same thing it is normal for that transmission . he tells me just let of the gas a bit. well my problem is i dont want to let of the gas a bit i want the transmision to do its damn job and shift into second gear. how can i get this fixed , i already told the dealer what i have seen on here about the valve body and soleniod and something else i forget but i told him i was reading it at the time of the call. he said no no no it is unfixable. what do i do 3 professionals tell me its normal but i cant stand it . what do i need to say to them to make them fix it. if you reply keep in mind i know nothing about mechanics so use simple terms , thanks in advance and sorry for this long post

Message: Hey DADX01, Didn't you read that his truck is an R/T. There is no 5spd option for the R/T. Just help the man with his problem, don't just give your opinion of what he should have bought.
Thanks

Message: It could be that your TV cable needs to be adjusted. If it's adjusted correctly, then your governor pressure solenoid and/or governor pressure transducer need to be replaced. It's a common problem and I've heard these components have a high failure rate.

Message: My tranny was shifting into second too soon and felt like it was slipping. I adjusted the TV cable back about 1/8 inch. What a difference. It shifts fine now!

Message: DAKX01,
I have a 4.7 5spd, and rant and rave about 5spds, etc.
But, I couldn't believe it when I read your post!
By the savings, did you mean to NOT get the R/T option? He did get the truck from a dealer used.
lew,
I hope you try the advice from these guys who have the auto, could be an easy fix.
