Subject: Wow 5.9 ENGINE FAN IP: Logged
Message: Was looking to remove 5.9 engine fan on my 2002QC and try running without it. Expected some difficulty in getting the fan off. When I touched the fan's big nut...i discovered it was
already loose. It was not unscrewed but I could have removed it with just my fingers. Just wondering if anyone ever lost the fan hub into the radiator...going down the road. Maybe the rotation keeps it from doing that? Anyway mine was loose.

Message: Joe on the 2001-02 daks (as far as i know), dodge has created a hybred cooling system that uses both a electric fan and a manuel fan. With this system the manuel fan spinns slower than normal, to help with hp. i have a 180 degree thermostat in my truck and this set up (2002 R/T) and the engine runs extremely cool, after this summer im most likely going to do the same thing as these guys are. i just want to know how this truck does in the Texas heat.

Message: Size of fan nut is 1 7/16 inch.
I've had no cooling issues since taking the fan off. But its not been over 80 degrees ambient yet.
I have a 180 engine thermostat and the engine runs that temp. Any road speed at all replaces the fan. I plan to wire in a electric adjustable thermostat fan controller to turn the elect fan on sooner than the factory ecm does, for when it does get hotter.

Message: ok so i got the right wrench and saw that the whole pulley turned with the nut and was slipping. so i did wat other people did and put a screwdriver through the hole in the pulley but the fan would not allow the screwdriver to go in straight and it did not stop the pulley from slipping. i even tried putting a nail through the pulley but that didnt work either. so wat am i supposed to do now?

Message: Did you hit the wrench with a big hammer? It could take a shock type of load to break the nut loose.

Message: Joey on my truck I had to use a craftsman strap wrench to hold the pulley and then use a 12" crescent wrenk and a nice smooth application of the power, but it came off easy enough. Just let the strap wrench handle rest on the tensioner pulley so you have 2 hands for the crescent.

Message: Joey,
You're supposed to move the pulley, and ,line up the holes so you can put the screwdriver against the water pump housing, you don't just stick it through a hole! Then you hold it, thus keeping the pulley from turning, while you loosed the nut. This IS the quickest and easiest way. There are lots of ways to do it, whatever works for you!
Speaking of loose nuts...
ewytu,
I'm not b*tching, and I think in your post only to slam me, you meant to spell the word,'fairy', not a boat that transports cars!
