Subject: Diff fluid questions? IP: Logged
Message: I want to change my diff fluid this weekend so here are my questions:
1. What fluid to use if bought at autoparts store?
2. How much fluid will I need?
3. What kind of friction modifier will I need and how many oz.
4. What is the best gasket material to use?
Thanks!

Message: Assuming you have a 9.25" corporate diff., you will need about 2 1/2 quarts - buy 3. There is often a running battle here between natural and synthetic gear oil users.
I recently had new gears installed in order to better pull a boat. The fellow changing out my gears taught Dodge Tech classes for Chrysler Corp. before opening up his own business. When he said go with synthetic, I listened. Use Mopar friction modifier. According to my installer, a bit more modifier is required/recommended when using synthetics.
I am no expert - repeating to you what one expert recommended, and what I did.
Good luck.
