Sorry but all my readings have shown that the 98 mph limiter cannot and will not be removed by anyone. dont ask why.

Ive heard that the drive shaft and or drive line on certain models wont handle high speeds. So anything that has the 98 limit must keep it.

thanks Daksmack. I read at the beginning of this forum that you can turn the ignition to start and the truck will bypass the limiter. I am VERY SKEPTICAL about doing this. I want to so bad, but I do not think it is worth screwin up my truck!!..right?

i'm a bit confused now, i have a 02 4.7 5-speed and i've cruised over 100 mph on many occasions without problems, i even remember getting it up to 115 at one point. The only time i can think of that i might of had my limiter kick in is when i was doing about 110 with the truck in 4th. this also could of been the fuel shutoff or rev limiter cuz i was turning some serious revs, i just couldn't let a little muskrat win.

SkipDawg91-

You said that you have a 2002 Dakota, whereas mine is a 2001. I think that there may be a difference in the configuration of the two trucks. I talked to a friend of mine about it and he said that he has heard of people putting the truck in start to bypass the limiter. The only trouble in doing that is what if it dosent go smoothly, and you must turn it back to the off position?? Then you loose steering! AHHH!!! I dont think that loosing steering would be a good idea at 98 M.P.H. right? I did disagree with one thing he said. He said that if the truck is shut off doing that speed, or any, that the fuel pump would continue to inject fuel into the cylinder. Then when the truck starts, the spark ignites the excess fuel in the cylinder. I did not agree that the pump would continue injecting because wouldnt it need power to inject? With the engine off, wouldn't there be no power? Reguardless if the flywheel is still spinning. Isnt the pump run off of a seperate thing?
