 Subject: belt noise- driving me crazy

I have a 98 5.2 that the belts or something is sqealing like crazy. The auto part store sprayed belt dressing on it, now it is WORSE!!!
Is is the belt, a pulley, or what.
It seems to get worse as you speed up.

it's the belt, mine has done that twice... there's nothing you can do to fix it.. just replace the belt and it will be fine.. approx $35.00

Don't use belt dressing!! Our belts are made to run
dry. You can use a bit of spray brake cleaner on the
belt and pulley to get the dressing off. Or, get yourself
a Goodyear Gatorback belt, they don't squeal.

i have a 98 5.2 and mine truck sounds like the belts squealing only at idle, well i took off the belt and checked-it looks brand new, is there anything else that could make that sound?

It may look fine but when it starts squealing it's time to go... get the gatorback and you won't have any problems. it's only $35.00...

Hey guys, I replaced the belt with a Gates belt and all problems are fixed. It seems that the belt I had was shot. Good luck, oh, DO NOT use belt dressing, it just makes things worse.

The Gates belt cost $35.00 plus about $10.00 to put on.
