Subject: M1 making howling noise? IP: Logged
Message: I just recently installed an M1 intake manifold along with a list of other parts. Then entire engine is all new besides the throttle body and fuel rail for now. I'm getting a howling or moaning noise from the engine. Me and one of the other techs at work were checking it out and we think it's coming from the intake. I pulled the air hat off and didn't notice a difference, and no difference when holding hands over the TB either. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I have a new TB coming from SoCalDakota today hopefully and will be installing that tomorrow. We'll see if that makes a difference.

Message: Are you sure there aren't any leaks around the gaskets? I have heard people talk about spraying Windex around where the gaskets are and if you see any bubbles then you can find the leak. Another thing could be the sealing of the EGR ports.

Message: Good idea, I'll be working on it tomorrow. I'll try two things, Carb Cleaner and some type of bubbly solution, that will let me know if there are leaks and which way they are going. I'll try to do it before it gets too hot, other wise it will just boil off instead of bubbling.
Thanks for the hint.

Message: NNO BUBBLY SOLUTIONS! NO CARB CLEANERS!
Use starting fluid and listen for RPM change.
Realize that you're dealing with a VACUUM leak, and I don't think you want bubbly soap solution being sucked into the engine, or carb cleaner!
