Thanks, i will try the wire re-routing. Do you know if the fuel filter on the 98 is in the tank, or is it changable.

Hey Chris,

Don't waste all your time and money. I did all the mods everyone suggested on this board and the only thing that works in my truck to get rid of the pinging is to run premium gas (92)

K&N FIPK (Generation-II Air Intake Kit)
Gibson Swept Side Single 3inch Aluminized Steel Cat-Back Exhaust System
Borg Warner Select Cap & Rotor
8mm Taylor Spiro-Pro Wires
180 degree Thermostat by Robert Shaw
Autolite 3923 sparkplugs
32x11.50x15 All Terrain Pro Comp Tires
Moog upper ball joints (K7242)
Raybestos Rotors and Quiet Brake Pads
3 inch Performance Body Lift

Well, that's not real solution just a patch. Who wants to spend money on high octane these days? Would you rather waste money on gas or get your engine fix right? In the long run, it's worth the aggravation in finding a fix than always paying extra for gas. Have a local technician check it out. It can be a timing chain slack or piston carbon build up. I think Amsoil makes some kind of flush that could cure it. To check the timing chain turn your crank shaft, if the dist rotor take a 1 inch or more to move then you have too much slack that will cause bad timing.

I didn't know that the timing chain could affect it. I'll look at that later tonight. Thanks for tip Anthony.
