when I had like 3k on my 94, I noticed mine was leeking, took it to the dealer and had it changed. 2k later same thing, this time I changed it my self, took pictures of how the gasket was put on by a blind man or some so called tech probely useing his feet instead of hands. It looked like when they where putting on the intake they knocked out of place. Needless to say, make sure it stays on straight when the intake goes on.

It's a 99 5.2L. I have some high performance gaskets on order. And yes, Dodge IS doing the work b/c they warranty it for 12k miles. Maybe I should ask them to put THOSE gaskets on.

Sorry about your problem....maybe this'll help-
When the new gasket goes on, make sure whoever does it puts a layer of RTV sealant on it (Permatex Ultra Black) then is torquing the bolts to spec correctly. I found that w/these engines, that's the key. And yes, it has to go on straight as an arrow---if it's off a little, the gasket'll go again..... Cap

Even with standard RTV, the gasket should last at least 15-30K miles...not 2K. Have them check the actual plate and manifold for warpage.

Just wondering if this can be the cause of my 5.2 burning oil? Thanks.

One of the tell-tale signs is excessive oil consumption (1-2qts every 1000-2000 miles).

No check engine light but like Bernd said I have to add a quart every month. It doesn't burn oil all the time. If I leave the truck idling for a while when I take off with it I get a cloud of smoke for a bit then it seems to taper off.

Mine would only smoke at higher RPM. Maybe around 3500-4200

Forget about using Mopar's cheap paper gasket. It just doesn't last. Get one of Fel-Pro's valley pan gaskets. It's reinforced by a metal shim with rubber bonded to both sides. I just put one on and it looks to be much more durable. I'll try to get the part number and update the posting.

Ok so my 02 Dakota stopped
running properly all of a
sudden. Hard time starting,
won't stay running, shakes,
rattles and no roll. Code reader
says 3rd & 4th cylinders are
misfiring. Could this be because
of the tell tale valley pan
gasket? Also says large and
small EVAP emission system leaks
but I think I got that under
control.
