Subject: EGR valve IP: Logged
Message: I have a 92 dakota 5.2 V-8 79000 miles. When it is cold outside, about 30 degrees or less,it runs rough and stalls, but this does not happen every time. It will run fine for a week and then start doing it again. When I unplug the EGR vac. hose it runs smooth. Is it a dirty or bad valve or something else that is controlling it? If it is the valve can I clean it or should I buy new?

Message: I also have a '92 Dakota 4X4 with a 5.2L and mine does the same thing around 10-20 degrees. I have not tried unplugging the EGR valve. Sorry, I am looking for an answer too.

Message: You need to make sure the vacuum line is not clogged. It could be rust, carbon, etc.I have seen this problem on Neons and what I found was that with the heat that is in the EGR valve when the engine was shut off the heat and cold outside air would cause condensation in the vacuum line which in turn could freeze up.Also the EGR valve could be sticking open and this causes a rough idle, missfires and stalling.I would replace the valve and check that vacuum line.
