Subject: no cat? IP: Logged
Message: hey, i have a 97 5.2L Dakota Sport RC. right now i have the stock cat and a dynomax muffler after that that dumps before the axle. i think the cat took a crap and i dont want to spend 100+ replacing it even with a performance one. im thinkin of just cutting it out and welding in a test pipe. my question is wat should i do with the o2 sensor? by the way, i have 65k miles
and by spring i want to have a side swept exhuast like a lightning, b/c of space issues this would mean i will have to move the muffler down to about where the cat is, and then have the pipes out before the rear tire

Message: yeah its a 2500 dollar fine but if you get caught just make up some story like it took a crap so you had to take it off and you ordered a new one and its on back order....it works on the cops around here

Message: I never knew it was that big of a fine for running no cats!
I recently bought a POS 1980 El Camino from my friend for something to screw around with.
Someone else had allready switched it to a 350 from the old V6 setup and it has dual exhaust with dual Cats on it but the engine has no emmisions. Maybe that eplains why someone intsalled the cats, just to fool the cops at a glance under the vehicle?
I had to register this car at my other address which doesn't require emmisions but the area where I live and drive does require emmisions so I think I'll leave those suckers on there just to avoid a possible $2500 ticket!
